As regards the "No response" comment to the idea of rebooting the EU, I agree! The concept doesn't even warrant a response, as I think most EU fans would agree. The literary SW universe is a functioning, thriving, growing, diverse, 30 year old unified entity that is like NO OTHER in the history of literature. The only ones who'd want to destroy that are those who don't read it, or who don't appreciate it. Nothing's perfect, of course, but you don't eradicate something of such great value (and work, craft, talent, devotion) because of a few actual or perceived flaws.

As regards the upcoming Clone Wars TV series and its effect on the current timeline, we'll have to take a wait and see attitude to know for sure. Worse comes to worse, I'm sure the editors at LFL will do their best to provide retcons and fixes where needed. It's too soon to even speak on the matter. Nobody wants to contradict a story if it can be avoided. But if such occurs, hopefully it'll be noted and later repaired.

For Sue or Aaron, I was wondering if there was anything in the works to cover the stories of the lost 20 jedi? I was walking out of Indiana Jones tonight(it was pretty good, though not up to Last Crusade) and the idea hit me that it would an interesting read to hear all the stories of the only 20 jedi to have willingly renounced the way's of the jedi. if there is nothing in the works, can you at least think about it? :)

Some quick thoughts:

1) I loved LOTF! And while I'd have enjoyed even more books in the series, it works as it stands. The ambiguity, characters from all over the EU, twists and turns, all fascinating and believable. Brave storytelling indeed. Kudos to all involved.

2) I found +Invincible +extremely powerful; but one's emotional response to a book or film is very subjective. For the fans who didn't feel that, you may find that years later when you reread it, your response is different. I know my response to titles I initially didn't enjoy is oftentimes quite different upon rereading.

3) While I love the grueling emotional turpitude of this series and the last, I have no objection to lighter, more space-opera type stories either. Star Wars is all about versatility and diversity of storytelling. If you look at the EU, you go from extreme light (Ewoks cartoons, books and comics) to extreme dark (NJO, LOTF, Stover) and everything in between. That's the beauty of the EU.

I apologize in advance if this has been asked before. Will the Dark Empire storyline ever be made in to a novelization. There a quite a few posts on other site forums that would love this comic book series in that form. ( Pretty Please Sue with a cheery on top) Matthew Stover would be perfect for the author (no offense to the other authors)

Throughout my association with Star Wars, I've introduced new characters at every reasonable opportunity. It's not so that there will be "meat for the grinder" but because it's a huge universe and I think that a steady stream of new faces, used judiciously, serves as a constant reminder that there are people, places, and concerns out there other than just those in the immediate vicinity of Han, Luke, and Leia.

Actually, this is something I wish we'd see more of: that is, entire stories that show that the universe is bigger than just Han, Luke, and Leia.

I'd mark out huge (and I mean HUGE) for NJO/Legacy era stories, with Jedi characters in leading roles, that do not have the Solo/Skywalker name/bloodline.

Amidst some of the criticism noted here, I would like to say that I loved the LOTF series and am sad that it is over. I addition to reading it, I just finished listening to the audio version of invincible, which made some of the dramatic scenes more gut wrenching than when reading it.

I also just finished Last of the Jedi #10 and I am also sad that it over. It was a good series with a nice, unexpected(to me at least) ending. Yes, although I am 36 I read the young reader books as well, because I like to fill in all the timelines as much as possible and I am led to beleive that the young reader books have to meet the same continuity standards as the adult novels.

Now I can't wait to see what comes next, and I second all the other opinions that I would love to see some sort of book(s) regarding Jacen's 5 year hiatus.

*> Sue, thanks for spending some of your busy schedule
with the fans. I loved the series, especially
Jaina-as-the-heroine. My one beef - Where's the kiss?
Epic Star Wars drama with a total movie feel and no
:x

Seriously, the ending was perfect. I am, however,
casting my vote for some future J/J smooches, pretty
please?

(but please have Aaron write those books after the
J/J book we all know he'd be perfect for)*

Ah i'm loving your work TKeiraLea!!
We seriously need to get some J/J in there, and Mr Allston, It's gotta be you!!

It is your destiny, and it has been ever since the day you blessed us with Rebal Dream!!

How about more of the Chiss and the unknown regions. Isn't time that the United Galaxy tried expanding for the first time in a long time. Introduce new species. Including more jedi and what they are up to as well and who their new students are. For example; Kyp, corran, saba, kyle, tesar, lowie, valin and, ummm....well new jedi as well because those are all that i can think of. How about a chiss jedi? that would be cool

And it couldn't hurt for the readers to let us know which new characters they really want to see in the future. (A good friend of mine informs me that she's the world's biggest Denjax Teppler fan. I never would have guessed that he had any fans if she hadn't told me.)

Where would you want us to put this information though? Because I wouldnt mind putting in my two cents. I love some characters, some of which (like Revan, who is my favorite) are very popular with many others, but still havent been expanded upon for what seems like ages and there are no signs of future works.

what I really mean to ask is, with some major characters being killed off recently, have you started to develop some new characters and/or are you going to reintroduce some older characters for future novels so that we have a greater cast to get to know and love before they are all killed off by legacy?

I can't speak for the editorial end of things, but I can for myself and perhaps, by extension, for some of the other writers in the program.

Some of the characters I've introduced in the course of the LotF series (and not killed) include Admiral Cha Niathal, Dr. Seyah, Seha, Denjax Teppler, Captain Uran Lavint, and Kolir Hu'lya. And though (obviously) I didn't create them, I was first to use Syal and Myri Antilles as adults.

And all the writers on the series have done this sort of thing.

I hope several of my original characters end up being developed and reintroduced as need arises. (I am not, however, aware of any of them being groomed to fill specific roles vacated by the recently-deceased.)

And it couldn't hurt for the readers to let us know which new characters they really want to see in the future. (A good friend of mine informs me that she's the world's biggest Denjax Teppler fan. I never would have guessed that he had any fans if she hadn't told me.)

Anyway, it's about time for me to bow out and return to my troll cave. But I've re-started my starwars.com blog, so people can also visit me there.

I have to add a big THANK YOU to all the authors who stick Kyle Katarn in the stories. Finally he has some book cred!

As far as Tycho goes I totally understood what he was doing. I figured that one, he was covering his butt, and two he was doing his duty. He also knew that he could tell the whole fleet about the Jedi on board and there just was not much they could do about it. Heck look at TPM, two Jedi didn't have much trouble, not to mention a whole Jedi boarding party.

Thank you as well for the Wraith Squadron hints that were in there. I hope we get to see some of them pop in more in future books! My WS books are wearing out!

Actually I had just asked that. I am hoping for a book similar to Traitor in that it has a lot of philosophy. It absolutely must be written by Stover, in my opinion.

Sue, is there a chance for a books or series of books on Jacen's 5-year journey of learning force abilities. Dark Nest and LOTF did good jobs at showing alot of what he has learned in terms of skills but I think alot of fans would agree theres more story material there. A comic or e-book could work too. Sorry if this was asked before(I can never bring myself to backtrack more than a few pages).

Many thanks for the answer, Aaron! I thought they worked well as you intended. After reading lots of posts in various forums lately, it's become clear to me that some SW fans have a tendency to look for a conspiracy (a uber plot, if you will) and I think this serves as a great reminder that things are sometimes much simpler than they are. (Not that it isn't fun to speculate, however...):)

I have a question about the tassels. How did you come up with the meaning behind them all? Did they all have relevant meanings, or did they just sound interesting at the time? Could some of them been referring to other Sith in the EU or were they all intended to refer to Jacen?

Most of the tassel meanings were derived from statements made about or by Sith characters in the movie and in EU materials over the years, though often their language was altered to make them more ambiguous or to make them more directly applicable to Jacen. Often, the underlying statements referred to Sith in general rather than to specific Sith characters.

It's important, though, not to attach too much importance to the tassels, as some seem to have done. The tassels were a MacGuffin in the classic Alfred Hitchcock sense -- a contrivance that sets events into motion, that has no other purpose than to do so, and that, having done so, can be discarded and forgotten. The tassels served that purpose for me in a meta-sense, and in the story sense they served that exact function for Lumiya. Their purpose to her was to determine whether Jacen had enough education to detect their relevance and comprehend or rapidly learn their meaning. Since the answer was yes, Lumiya knew Jacen could remain a candidate for Sithhood.

All that having been accomplished, the tassels can and should be forgotten.

To maximize the odds that something like this could happen in the future, all you have to do is convince everyone at Lucasfilms and Del Rey that such a series would be impossibly cool, hugely profitable, and a pleasure for everyone involved to work on.

Lucasfilm likes big multimedia stuff like Shadows of the Empire, Clone Wars and The Force Unleashed, sooo...

2010: The Year of the X-Wing - novels, toys, games, the works! :D

So, Sue- when he had that thing for breakfast, what the hell was Aaron thinking?

Oh, wait, he didn't mean it like that... ;)

~~~~Spoilers ahead.
Are there any plans to explore the five years after NJO? I for one want to see Stover write a book about his journey, just because he was killed off doesn't mean he has to be abandoned as a character. I mean, Luke is technically dead right now, that hasn't stopped anyone from still using his character.
Either way I think we should see Jacen as a force ghost since he knew more about the force than anyone. I think it would be unbelieveable for him to not appear as one, given all his knowledge.
