i dont see why there would be a controversy. sunrider
was around before in the sws universe before that
jeep was. anyway what do they care if star wars has a
book on a sunrider. thats just stupid. i mean nomi
has been around since the 80's .
False, Nomi showed up in the last month of 1993, Jeep has been producing Wranglers since 1987. I couldn't find an exact date that the soft top was coined "Sunrider" but I would image it was before dark horse started using the name. Otherwise there would be no controversy.

I thought the naming controversy was more well know, sorry for the "random" comment.

I was wondering what you were taljing about with jeep.
Here's what Sue had to say about the issue:
+No, it wasn't a myth, and the issue is still there with using the name "Sunrider." However, we can use it in the body of text where it can be argued that there would be no confusion -- we can't use her name in the title, and if we ever do an action figure, we'd have to drop "Sunrider."
So we just have to be careful. +
I hope that this novel tells a new story rather than retelling TOTJ, but either way its nice to have a novel from that era.

Ah, now I understand your post from the previous page Broox!
I've asked on the VIP thread as to whether/why the ban is cancelled, so hopefully Sue will shed some light on the situation (although I wouldn't be surprised if she can't 'for legal reasons').

Now, I'm sure that LFL had to stop using the
Sunriders in new stuff because of some sort of legal
issue (that's why Bastila wasn't Vima, as was
originally planned)...
It was due to the surname "Sunrider", Jeep had already trademarked the phrase,

It'll be interesting to see if this will be a completely new Nomi story or whether it will overlap with the comics like 'Darth Bane: Path of Destruction'. I hope it's the former.
Maybe something about Nomi restructuring the Jedi into the Prequel-era style Order we see in KOTOR. Or perhaps the completion on Vima's training under her mother. Or, even better, Nomi vs the Mecrosa Order.

Wow, certainly wasn't expecting this being a Nomi Sunrider novel. Excellent news for me, as I absolutely love Tales of the Jedi.

That's what I hope for, but given the Bane precedent, I would expect that only if this first novel is a success after telling Nomi's back story.
EDIT: Though I do have to congratulate LFL for listening to the fans. For some time we've been complaining that major characters have been getting the spotlight, while non-Big 3 characters have been ignored. And now we have several novels focusing on minor or less famous characters - Zekk, Jaden Korr, Nomi Sunrider, Boba Fett in a standalone, the Horror novel. Just goes to show that LFL does listen to the fans.
Score one for diversification.

I hope it is not a retelling of the comics and rather a bridge between the TotJ comics and the KotOR games. Maybe explain where she and Vima were during the games.

we have no novel form, of nomi, and i ahve read
only a few comics, so i would like to see nomi
featured as well as kun and ulic
Yes it will be nice to have a novel with them all. I love all of those characters, but TBH they are pretty low on my list of people I want to see in a novel from the old Jedi Order(pre 1000 BBY).

I agree. While I like Nomi and Thon, I would have loved to see a new Jedi or Sith be the focus. But as this is what we're getting, I'm still pretty happy about it.

Its confirmed the Book arrives in October of 2010 and
it's a stand-alone novel starring... are you ready?
Nomi Sunrider!! (to quote Sue)
Well, something set in the TOTJ era. Not exactly
ancient, but good that they're expanding that era
more.
Thoughts, opinions?
Personally I want to see more of Master Thon.
That news is a bit disappointing. I like Nomi, but her story has gotten a lot of play already. There are SO MANY characters in that era, and the eras right around then that have not been explored enough, or at all.

:O A mod who doesn't have encyclopedic knowledge!!
What are these boards coming too???:O
He appears in Jedi vs. Sith that tells the Battle of Russan that occurs near the end of the irst bane novel. Its slightly different than told in Bane, but the basic plot remains the same.
EDIT: we also see more of Rain/ Zannah's background with her cousins.

unless this is like the first
Bane book that expanded before and past the comics
and retell the same events as part of a larger story.
Heh, funny you should say that. I picked up the Bane books and they're on my (too long) list of novels to catch up on. I'm glad that they don't rely on a previous comic knowledge (in fact I didn't even know there were comic stories about him).

It'll be kind of hard having no knowledge of the character to jump in, unless this is like the first Bane book that expanded before and past the comics and retell the same events as part of a larger story.
Otherwise, I'd suggest picking up the two TOTJ omnibuses. Trust me, they're worth it.

Not exactly great news for me. Makes me wonder if I'll even buy it. I had no idea who she was when I read Sue's blog, so I looked her up... seems as if she's only ever been in the comics, and I have no motivation to read or care about those.
Though if the novel is standalone and doesn't require me to have any knowledge of the comics, then I'll still give it a try.
