I feel his question was legitimate. If Blood Oath was unfortunately canceled, would someone else be brought on to write it, because it seems to be a popular concept?
We don't know why the book is delayed. It could be issues getting something approved with LFL, it could be personal difficulties, we don't know and it's not our biz.
BLOOD OATH was based off of Elaine's outline. It's HER story. Someone else could come in and write a story about Zekk and the twins, but it wouldn't be the book we're waiting for. There's also economic factors to consider, I'm sure, as they can't just take EC's outline and hand it to someone else. It's EC's book, and also a bit late in the process to change gears, in terms of cover art to blurbs.

*That also goes for suggesting that another person take over. *
Vandy can clear up what he meant himself, but I didn't feel that he simply suggested that someone else just go ahead a take over Blood Oath. I feel his question was legitimate. If Blood Oath was unfortunately canceled, would someone else be brought on to write it, because it seems to be a popular concept?
What's so rude about that? There was nothing in that question that I saw that asked for a cancellation, or that said to go ahead and replace EC. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we are all behind EC and hopes that she is able to get this novel out and that we are going to support her when it does come out.

Don't be silly. Nobody said anything about the quality of the manuscript. Its not unheard of for a novel to be finished by someone else if circumstances prevent the original author from doing so and it shouldn't reflect badly on the author if that happens.

All you need to know is that it's delayed. Any speculation why it was delayed or on the quality of the book is rude towards the editors and author.
That also goes for suggesting that another person take over.

Perhaps this is out of place, but would it be beyond the realm of possibility to pass the novel on to another author if circumstances prevented Ms Cunningham from completing it?
ISTR that authors are not assigned books in the SWU but offer up outlines/ideas, so if another author were to write a book called BLOOD OATH...it wouldn't BE the novel we're all waiting for. Also, I would guess that Elaine is already contracted for the book and that there are economics and contractual obligations to consider, and if events are beyond Elaine's control they may be beyond any authors, depending on what is causing the delay. I'd rather wait for Elaine's story than have someone brought in to hack out a spec book to fill a slot.

Ditto on the Blood Oath info, Sue, thanks. It's
amazing how fast rumor became suspicion became panic
became fact. I'm glad that it hasn't been canceled.

that many of us were very interested in reading
about, as evidenced by the panic surrounding it's

Well, she didn't say the book was definitively canceled, so I wouldn't be so "glad" that it hasn't. I took her comments as seeming highly possible that the manuscript won't come in.

POSSIBLE SPOILER
Sue, I had a question about the FotJ sereis- was it ever decided to NOT have Jacen in the story arc in flashbacks? I just got Omen and am about to start it but had thought about that. Would I see a flashback to points in the 5 year journey with Jacen, the way some series kill characters but keep them alive through flashback scenes.
Anyway that made we wonder it it was FIRMLY decided or not. Like it was firmly decided no Sith during NJO when it came out.
Thanks! Oh and BO- I never doubted! Hope things get sorted! COME ON ZEKK!!

I know, that really doesn't tell you much, but it's not my story to tell, ya know?
Thanks for the info, Sue. Maybe the cancellation rumors will die down now. Somewhat.

Just swamped with work....
Blood Oath -- we're all doing our best to keep it in the line-up and, if the manuscript comes in soon, the book will be moved again, maybe to April 2010. If there's no manuscript, then it'll have to be dropped. Events beyond the author's control, or wishes, have caused the delays. I know, that really doesn't tell you much, but it's not my story to tell, ya know?
I'm now reading Karen Miller's Clone Wars novel, Stealth, and have been working on many Dark Horse scripts and the other usual stuff.
The Backlash cover is slightly different than the first three, but not so different as to not fit in with the overall design. We're now considering maybe two characters on an upcoming FotJ cover... but haven't seen the layout yet.
Vacation was super. Everybody needs a break now and then.

Either still on vacation or swamped with work accumulated over vacation, I'd assume.

Agreed. I dropped my subscription as well. What happened to the original articles and fiction?
The cost is obviously cheaper to run recycled stuff, but it's certainly not entertaining, and seeing "Top Ten" lists that I could see on anyone's blog rather than exclusive interviews, diagrams, fiction, etc, doesn't exactly suck me in. Also, I might be mental but it seems to have more ads as well, which I would forgive if they were paying for new material.
