Sue, do you know yet if Karen Traviss will come to America to promote Sacrifice? Thanks!
I really don't know yet, but I'll ask. I hope she will be here for Celebration, and if that's the case, maybe Del Rey can work in a few tour dates.

sue how long before the publishing date does the author have to provide you with the manscript for a novel. and can you tell us when the manscript for inferno is due to dell ray.
In an ideal world, we'd get the manuscript a full year before the pub date. As we know, the world is far from ideal. We're about to receive the manuscript for SACRIFICE. INFERNO will come maybe in another couple months... I'm not really sure yet.

Do you guys know what the best-selling Star Wars books and comics are of all time? Comics I know might be more difficult, in terms of trade paperbacks, as some issues fare better in one form than the other.
I would hazard a guess that the novelization of STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE is the bestselling novel. I don't know about the comics, except that DARK EMPIRE keeps going back for reprints...

And, Sue (can I call you Sue?):
Of course!
"Fathers and Enemies" - I'm probably overreading if I see echoes of Turgenev, right?
Gosh, I don't know. Seems a stretch to me, though. Have you read +Fathers and Sons+? I must admit, I have not.....

Are the titles considered just on the merits of how they fit the story that's being given the title, or does the fact that a title has been used (albeit likely for a story in a different medium) change the situation for the new story?
We take all this into consideration, plus I generally run it through amazon.com to see how it's been used on other books.

I was wondering, do you think we will ever see a companion book the NJO and Legacy of the force series (or even the whole EU) that delves into the creation of these sagas?
We haven't talked about anything like this... yet.

This question came up over at theforce.net forums, and I wonder if any VIP can answer it.
Do you guys know what the best-selling Star Wars books and comics are of all time? Comics I know might be more difficult, in terms of trade paperbacks, as some issues fare better in one form than the other.
Does anyone have any sort of records on the subject?

Zinnos: And is there any plans for a NJO comic besides Chewbacca? I would love to see one made! it would be awesome!
There were two short adventures in Tales: Han vs. Mandalorians, and Kyle Katarn vs. Yuuzhan Vong...
I'd kinda like NJO: Infinities myself...
And, Sue (can I call you Sue?): "Fathers and Enemies" - I'm probably overreading if I see echoes of Turgenev, right?
always useful to check

* I was trying to be funny with the Dark (Moose) Shadow, etc., title. It wasn't to any book.
And at least some of us got it, and laughed. ;)*
Yeah Sue, I was right there with ya.
You definitely made the right choices in the titles.
I think Fathers or Fathers and Enemies would have made interesting titles, but those Darth Bane titles?:O Definitely a good call there. Path of Destruction is one of my favorite SW titles in recent times.
Thanks for sharing though--I always enjoy a look into the creative process and alternate plots/titles that are otherwise "lost".

The short story is actually the one from Gamer that I mentioned.
But I hadn't even thought of the Trump thing. heh

A short story set during Dark Journey is also called The Apprentice. Seeing as how Donald Trump wanted to copyright "You're Fired", I'm surprised he hasn't sued Lucasfilm yet.

Actually, that answer just reminded me of an old question I had wanted to ask:
What's the process when a title that is chosen (or preferred) is the same as a title that has already been used.
Examples:
- That list had "Bane of the Sith," which is already a KJA short story title from Gamer.
- There are three different SW stories called "The Apprentice" (Star Wars Tales #17, Gamer #8, and Marvel annual #3).
- There are two entitled "Bloodlines" (comic and novel).
- There are three (TPB of TOTJ, comic series, game series) called "Knights of the Old Republic."
Are the titles considered just on the merits of how they fit the story that's being given the title, or does the fact that a title has been used (albeit likely for a story in a different medium) change the situation for the new story?
: intrigued :

Troy created those titles. He's very good at titles.
I can definately see that!

Sue,
Thanks for sharing the background of birthing of the novel titles and all the other glimpses behind the scenes. It has been great to hear about the collaborative process that goes into NJO and Legacy of the Force. I was wondering, do you think we will ever see a companion book the NJO and Legacy of the force series (or even the whole EU) that delves into the creation of these sagas?

Actually, are there any working titles for some of the older books you'd like to share?
I'll look around and see if I can dig more up, but the easiest one to get to today is for BLOODLINES.
Here's what we tossed around:
FATHERS
FATHERS AND ENEMIES
NECESSARY EVILS
BLOODLINE
As you know, we went with the plural, BLOODLINES.
For DARTH BANE: PATH OF DESTRUCTION, we played around with these:
Star Wars: The Old Republic: Sith Crisis
Star Wars: The Old Republic: Darth Bane: The Sith Dilemma
Plight of the Sith
Sith Crossroads
Path of Destruction
Ultimate Entanglement
Breaking Point
Quandary
Turning Point
Impasse
Bane: Master and Apprentice
Bane: The Last Master
Bane: One Master
Bane of the Sith
Master of the Sith
Sith Master
And Then There Were Two
Always Two
Last of the Sith
That's all I can find right now....
