It's not that simple. One cannot just choose to ignore Saxton's website because there are constantly Saxton lovers going around proclaiming theories on it to be gospel truth.

Yet its the Saxton "haters" who keep bringing him up! :D

Check out a thread called "Size Matters Not?" for any more discussion on this. Let's not bog down the VIP thread with this negative junk.

No, they are the worst thing about message boards. Saxton hate is as daft as Zahn hate. If someone's personal website annoys you so much - why read it at all?

I don't think those who dissagree with Saxton would care much about his theories if it weren't for the fact that so many people hang on the man's every word.

On the lighter side:

+The Saxton side of the force is a pathway to many theories some would consider to be crazy.

Is it possible to learn these theories?

Not from an official source.+

I can spin off a new thread if anyone wants to watch me rant.

A better idea would be for you to e-mail the man himself on why you have a problem with his web page. This is a thread to ask VIPs questions, not to showcase your personal dislike of an author you don't agree with.

And I really, really detest his walker and Star Destroyer/Dreadnaught/Cruiser classification systems, for reasons which I can and have gone into great detail on. I can spin off a new thread if anyone wants to watch me rant.

I'm choosing not to reply to this one.... but don't want you to think I'm inadvertently ignoring your question.

Thank you. I actually don't need a reply to know that it may be unavailable for comment at this time. I do find your response reason to be hopeful. I will await your notice of what will become of this story line. I loved the movie but what I am excited about is the removal of that axe hanging over your head. Meaning Mr. Lucas deciding that his movie will go this way throwing continuity of the EU in a tissy. Now you have the ability to keep that under...shall we say more control.

I have seen six movies but have read somewhere in the area of 60 books. So the EU definately is more of my Star Wars experience then the movies. I appreciate your work and am thankfull to have your deligence in these matters. Plus I love the little blurbs you let go to tease us with.

*Keep in mind that there are 12 post-NJO novels coming out, as well as two "undeclared" novels later in the contract, so I wouldn't start panicking yet. At least that's how I interpret Sue's reply. *

Yeah thats true but sue me I'm skeptical (no Sue that isn't meant to be a play on your name, just coincidence).

Not exceptionally good.

weeps

At least you didn't say "Zero". :)

I think theres a huge fandom want for this kind of plotline, but considering Sue's answer (which was rather telling in its not telling us anything), I think its sad to say that we'll have to put up with a reference in one of those New Essential Guide books or whatever you call them.

He's so incredibly anal about the most absurd things -- for example, here he goes off on a dissertation about the Trade Federation battleships' internal gravity based on Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's jump down into the hangar in the beginning of TPM. Due to the unusual speed of the descent he concludes that either the ship has higher-than-Coruscant-standard gravity or they actively thrust themselves downward at the beginning of the fall. Gimme a break.

And I really, really detest his walker and Star Destroyer/Dreadnaught/Cruiser classification systems, for reasons which I can and have gone into great detail on. I can spin off a new thread if anyone wants to watch me rant. :p

*That's good news - except that it's not likely to come out over here for a couple of months.

I'll keep an eye out for it, though, thanks Valin.*

No problem. I'm sure somebody somewhere has posted a summary.

*Amen. I think people look at Saxton's site and automatically assume he's on some hell-bent mission to incorporate the Endor Holocaust into Canon.

If you actually read the official works he has done, its all pretty good and fits in well with canon.

I think people just prefer to whinge, though...*

I'm OK with 75% of his official stuff cuz it gets filtered; it's his Technical Commentaries that tick me off. His entire approach, methodology, attitude, and underlying assumptions rub me the wrong way. No wonder I dislike his conclusions.

Since Aayla's mission on Felucia was expanded upon in Reversal Of Fortune, is there any possiblilty that Ki-Adi-Mundi's mission on Mygeeto or Plo Koon's on Cato Neimoidia could be expanded in a comic or even a webstrip?

*Those of us that held out for a novel connecting Padme and her children had to face the facts with the release of ROTS, but obviously Padme's family was left alive. When will we see the connection with Luke and Leia and Padme's sister or her children? You have to admit that that is too big of an opportunity to leave alone.

That isn't a criticism VIPs, I have a checkered past as it is but I think I realise any reasons why you'd NOT create a novel which could include this plot line..

Sue,

Forgive any repeat questions. I tend to read about 8 pages back when I visit this thread then try to post.

*They have far more fans than detractors.

I would disagree with you there. All but the very best authors (and even a good deal of them)have more detractors than fans.*

Not everyone that reads Star Wars novels visits this site. So just because it is spoken here that they have detractors does not make it fact that they have equal amounst of each.

:(

I guess the best I can hope for is that Triple Zero is not the last of the RC novels.

here's to the possibility of the Republic Commando novel series running as long as X-Wing :D

As songs in the holiday special go, I much prefer This Minute Now, and not just because of the Wookiee/Omwat subtext... can someone with a better ear than me perhaps confirm that that's the music from the last scene of ANH rearranged as a slow and smoochy number...

And I know I'm not going to get an answer on whether fans like myself and Talas are supposed to understand continuity policy as dogma, scholarship, or meaningless geekdom, but I might as well ask again...

If this has been answered somewhere before (likely?), someone let me know, but Tasty, what is the current official canon status of the Holiday Special? N? S? Or are large parts of it C?

The Holocron entries linked to the Holiday Special cover all levels of continuity. Some of the cantina aliens created but were not seen in Ep IV that made it into the Holiday Special are considered G. For things that are non-G, if they are referenced by another source, they are C (this includes Life Day, the Panna system, and Art Carney's character). All else is S. Also, certain elements of specific entries tied to the Holiday Special are considered N (Chief Bast surviving the Death Star explosion).
