If its in a licensed source, sure, its canon.

Fan mods aren't licensed.

To put it another way, Team Gizka's product, while very nice and a great effort by fans, doesn't canonise deleted material anymore than say:

A) A Fan made film that recuts Attack of the Clones with all the deleted scenes is canon

or

B) If I get all the things Abel Pena cut out of his published Star Wars writing, and reintegrate it and then publish it on my website.

The quickest, easiest way for deleted material to be canonised is for them to be referenced, either on the official site, or in a sourcebook or future novel.

Considering how something you put out has been canonized, what makes you so sure?

There is 0% chance that anything Team Gizka puts out is canon.

I'd be very surprised if Obsidian or LA had the guts to shut down a group of fans who are cleaning up their mess -without any Xmas cash to show for it.

I think I even remember the official KotOR 2 forum having a message from the devs where they made it clear that the mod wasn't officially sanctioned, but basically encouraged people to go check it out anyway.

Heh. I'm sure the reason why there haven't been any more official patches for the game, is because the devs knows Team Gizka is on the job anyway.

But the canon issue is funny. Since Team Gizka are going to great lengths to restore what would otherwise have been canon, I think we have a strange case here of stuff that should be canon, but most likely will not be, on the sole basis of it being brought to the public by fans.

Tell me, Tasty, if the K2 developers are so impressed with the mod that they ask you to include it in canon, and it otherwise checks out (LFL testing and whatnot), would it be possible?

I know this is not holocron but...

I am a fond fan of Knight of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. Currently a mod is being made called the Sith Lords Restoration Project http://www.team-gizka.org/ .This mod is taking cut content from the Xbox version of the game and importing it onto PC, scripting and editing being done to restore the cut content back into the game to be played via patch soon in the future. Before I get my hopes up, I would like to know if this is illegal or not and if Lucas Arts/Obsidian will be shutting down this mod in the near future for possibly breaking the Terms of Service and Copyright Laws.

If it is legal, will the new content be considered Canon with the game's lore, or simply player created lore?

What rank does the Holocron have for *Shawn Valdez*? In the script he's a Captain but in the 'Who is Who' article he is a Major and then once more a Captain? Was he a Captain and did he get promoted to Major after Hoth?

Will +Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the
Force+ finally reveal all the members of Luke
Skywalker's original 12 students at the Jedi Praxeum?
It seems like the ideal opportunity.

Lol, I was just trawling the old threads, and look what I found:

TastyTaste:
+You won't get an answer from me. The truth of the matter is, authors/editors are often intentionally vague about details like this because they want to leave room for future authors to explore these areas without contradicting established continuity. I'm sure some day an Insider article, an RPG sourcebook, or an Essential Guide will answer the question once and for all but until then, you'll just have to keep guessing. +

The logic probably still stands. Oh, what a cyclic existence Star Wars fandom is! :)

Which begs the question: is Princess Lourdes also Sephi?

She's identical in nearly all respects bar skin color, which may be a simple case of artistic license.

At the very least, I consider Lourdes and her species "Near-Sephi", since we see her homeworld and it plainly isn't Thustra. (home of the Sephi)

That said, the Jedi Master Fay is very likely a Sephi, since she shares a similar physical appearance, and is also long lived.

It's a bit weird that a species with no horse-features is named that, but, then again, we have a fish species named "Mon Calamari" (which really should be the name for Quarren), do we not?
:^O Yousa point is well spaken. Perhaps Farfalla's legs were intended to appear equine. We can probably chalk the erroneous classification up to an ignorance of biological taxonomy on the part of either Kiel Charney or Darko Macan. But, hey, J.v.S. is still one of the best comics, dubious nomenclature aside. ;)

In my estimation, Valenthyne Farfalla is of a different species, which is just as likely to be named "Equine" as it is anything else. On Farfalla's species:

1) You're right, Sean8, it doesn't explicitly establish him as belonging to a species named, Equine, but, the comment can't be talking about the characteristics of the species, since Farfalla has no "equine" characteristics - he has a human head, (possible) horns, pointed ears and goat-legs. He resembles the traditional Greek monster known as the "satyr", and has nothing in common with a horse.

2) He has pointed ears like a Sephi, but has a few other differences, including the aforementioned legs, horns and red eyes. I doubt they are related, since the legs, in my view, represents a physiology too different to be arrived at through natural evolution. If they are related, it is due to something like Sith alchemy, which raises interesting possibilities, but is unproven.

  • "...she found herself leaving Coruscant orbit on a bearing for one of the moons, Hesperidium."

So the book does not in fact say that Hesperidium is a moon belonging to Coruscant. I had apparenty misunderstood. Thanks, Tasty!*

Thanks to you, too! :) You have no idea how much that statement helps me with sourcing (I don't own and have not yet read Sacrifice).

The book would better tell us some names of unknown Jedi from the movies.

While researching the background of Barquin D'an I found some contradictions. The SE SW Trilogy SB and the Databank say Barquin fled Jabba's Palace after Oola's death. The article in the SW Insider 'Who is Who in the Max Rebo Band' states that Barquin wanted to throw himself in the Sarlacc to escape from Jabba and eventually escaped. So he escaped in both stories but what version can be found in the Holocron?

*Do you have a species for Valentha Farfalla in the
Holocron?*
Not concretely. For the longest time we've used
dozens of pointy-eared characters without a species
name for them. The pointed-eared species in the
Jedi: Yoda comic were named Sephi. My theory
is that all pointy-eared species are either Sephi or
closely related to Sephi.

Thanks for the reply! There are indeed a number of "elves" around . Good to have a tenuous link to a species. In relation to Farfalla though, as depicted in Jedi vs. Sith, he also has the goat legs that would seem to distinguish him from a Sephi offshoot. It would be cool to see more of his species around.

Any species name for his Envoy?

Mr. Chee, has it been established whether Darth Vader's identity as Anakin Skywalker is common knowledge at various points post-ROTJ, or how common of knowledge it is?

Similarly, how well-known is it at various points that Emperor Palpatine is a Sith?

I'm not looking for a huge breakdown year by year or anything, just something along the lines of, "It became fairly common knowledge in 10 ABY" or "It wasn't very common in 6 ABY, but steadily became more well known until in 30 ABY anyone who cared to look into the matter would know", stuff to that effect.

Thanks a bunch for any help you can provide!

I don't have any axes to grind. This merely just jumped out at me as I read the book

Apologies, I should have been clearer. I was responding to the other poster who asked about the wookiepedia part of it. The topic has come up at another site and has become a rather contentious discussion. I didn't mean to imply that you were doing anything else than clearing up a question.

Despite Leland's confirmation and the lack of sourcing for evidence for Wookiepeedia, I'm afraid this is still going on as a rather contentious argument in other parts of fandom.

Again, sorry that the comment sounded directed at you, but I thought I was clearer when I was responding to the Wookiepeedia citation question and didn't mean to catch you up in that.

EDIT: I've just had a look back at my original comment and I can't apologize enough, I honestly thought I had specified that I was talking about some hoopla on citation and argument at another site, sincere apologies over the sloppy wording.

*I think the source is that the statement is that the Vong simply took the "largest" of Corsucant's moons and trashed it to make the Bridge and some people
assumed that Hesperidium was 1) a moon of Corsucant, and 2) Corsucant's largest moon.

The suggestion seems to be coming more from people looking for axes to grind than actual facts, as no one has stepped forward to offer citation, just recieved wisdom that the moon was destroyed. *

I don't have any axes to grind. This merely just jumped out at me as I read the book. The exact line on page 196 is:

"...she found herself leaving Coruscant orbit on a bearing for one of the moons, Hesperidium."

So the book does not in fact say that Hesperidium is a moon belonging to Coruscant. I had apparenty misunderstood. Thanks, Tasty!

Wizards of the Coast explains in the naming discrepency in this online supplement: Niman, properly, is the dual trinity of Kashi gods; therefore, the name 'Niman' has, at various times, been used to designate both Jar'Kai (which employs two blades, just as there are two trinities) and Form IV (since two trinities total six). Jar'Kai is the more traditional name for two-weapon dueling and recalls the ancient Atrisian city of Jar'Kai, where twin swords were first forged for the Yovshin Swordsmen. Jedi practitioners sometimes still refer to Jar'Kai as 'Niman' because Form VI is considered the basis of all more advanced lightsaber technique.

So, in short, galactic nomenclature is very morphable. ;) Now, as to that "two-saber variant of Form IV"...Mister Chee will have to help you there. ?:| :8}
