But there are official fanfilm awards, doesn't that imply some sort of permission?

Rogue Jedi Outcast:

*I was just reading the stuff on the last page here about somebody wondering whether it was permissiable to create fanfiction using Star Wars. Is that permission not granted only when that author intends to use that work to make a profit, or is it for all fanfiction works, even the ones that are not made for profit? (i.e ones made by regular fans and not proffesional authors) I had though that Mr.Lucas only minded when someone made **** using the Star Wars characters, or claimed that the Star Wars idea was theirs. I just wanted to clear up some confusion for myself :) *

"Permission" of any sort is NEVER granted for writing, outside of the officially licensed works like Del Rey's novels or Dark Horse's comics. However, when there isn't profit to be made, Lucasfilm generally turns a blind eye to it. This isn't the same as permission, however.

+I think it would be in the latter since the former is called "films only" but I'm not sure since I've heard that George Lucas had some sort of involvement with it. +

All work outside of the six major films is C-level canon, regardless of the level of Lucas involvement. Lucas is involved with a great deal of EU work, from storylines, to plot elements and characters. For example, the Holiday Special and the two Ewok movies come from Lucas-created storylines, but they are still part of the EU.

The "film-only" continuity is not really an established continuity, as such. It is merely a mechanism whereby fans who only watch the six films can still feel that they aren't missing out on bits of the story because they do not participate in the EU.

At least, that is my gist. There's no "film only" continuity bible, for example.

+Why exactly would one be unlikely to get it, esp.
if the fanfiction is not commercial and would not
really lose much profit off the mighty Lucas Corporation?
What exactly are those licensing reasons? +

Permission may imply in a legal sense that your use of their copyright is somehow authorised. Above all, Lucas Licensing would not want to give you this impression. Fanfiction is a grey area - despite the fact it is tolerated, technically, you have no legal right to use any of Lucasfilm's trademarks without their explicit permission.

I'm curious about how the canonicity of the ICS Books and how it fits in to the recently-admitted "two continuity" system (although I'm not so sure how recent it really was, since Lucas talked about it briefly in the Starlog Magazine in 2005 and quotes from before that hint at it, but Leland Chee's most direct quotes on it that came this year were pretty explicit). Does it go in the "films only" continuity or the "films+EU continuity"? I think it would be in the latter since the former is called "films only" but I'm not sure since I've heard that George Lucas had some sort of involvement with it.

You don't need permission to create a fan story,
Vezz, and, for licensing reasons, you're unlikely to
get permission.

I reckon deleted scenes take precedence over any non-film sources. Most of the time they're deleted for time/pacing reasons, and can still be considered part of The Big G's vision.

Tasty, what is the canon date for Winter's birthdate in the Holocron? There seem to be some conflicting sources as to whether she is a year and a few months older than Leia or possibly the same age as Leia.

Furthermore, was Winter formally/legally adopted by the Organas or was it just an informal situation? If a formal adoption, why was she not given the title of Princess?

Also, in Dark Force Rising, Winter claims that she only used the name "Targeter" for a brief time while working on Averam. Later, however, we saw her using this name on Drunost (Allegiance), Cilpar (The Rebel Opposition), and I believe, a few other places. How are we to interpret this, given that we know her memory is perfect so surely she would remember being called Targeter on other places and at other times?

Mr. Chee, I'm new to this board and I was wondering If I could discuss the canonocity of a certain one-shot comic. It was entitled "Storyteller," involved a bodiless 3PO telling 2 Squidge children about his adventures and Luke Skywalker. I liked the ending when the boy named Remoh picked up a lightsaber. I was excited! A new era, I thought. Off-Topic, I have a Star Wars Fanon project that me and my friends are working on entitled, "Star Wars: The Other." I guess I was looking for permission to do that. I want to officially announce that I am doing a fanon project to Lucasfilm and divisions of that. I just want to now If I can. It is completely N-Canon, but I want the permission. If you would like to check out a page about it, go to http://swfanon.wikia. com/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Other. I hope that we get your permission on this Mr. Chee. Clear Skies! Troy A. Hillman, Creator of the Star Wars: The Other Fanon Project

Thanks for digging that up!

So there's no sign of a retcon along the same lines of Bail "Prestor" Organa?

Breha Organa and Raymus Antilles are said to "share the same bloodline" but I don't think it has ever been definitely stated that they are brother and sister, or that they are the children of Bail Antilles. As Tasty says here:

What is the exact relation between Raymus Antilles & Queen Breha?
Hasn't been determined.

Raymus Antilles is definitely the uncle of Corla Metonae though, whatever his relationship to other characters actually is.

A member of the influential Antilles family serving the Royal House of Alderaan, Corla Metonae was assigned to the consular ship Tantive IV as bosun and petty officer in charge of the ship's deck crew and onboard craft, including escape pods. She served with her uncle, Captain Raymus Antilles.
http: //www.starwars.com/databank/character/corlametonae/index.html

The only character with the name Colton is Jeremoch Colton. Some sources (eg the ANH novelisation) called the Tantive IV's captain Colton Antilles. However, that name is not canon and he was later officially named Raymus Antilles instead. It had been thought by fans that it was Raymus Antilles in Ep III and his son Colton Antilles who Vader kills in Ep IV but that turned out not to be correct. Officially the one in Ep III and the one in Ep IV are both Raymus Antilles and there is no such character as Colton Antilles. The name Colton was reused for Jeremy Bulloch's Ep III character though as a nod to Threepio saying his "last master was Captain Colton" in the ANH novel, as Tasty also explained a while ago.

Can somebody help me with the Alderaanian Antilles family relations?
How is Breha Organa, Bail Antilles, Raymus Antilles and Corla Metonae related? And is anyone of them named Colton?

hmm, of course, if a deleted scene is contradicted elsehwere, it must no be canon. If a deleted scene appears in the novelization, though, I would think that it's canon.

Tasty, are the opinions of authors of a source considered canon? And I mean opinions expressed within the source, of course, not things said in interviews. For example, the opening crawl of A New Hope declared the Empire evil, and the Power of the Jedi Sourcebook declared the Potentium view of the Force misguided. And novels have a tendency of expressing the authors opinion on subjects.

These are opinions made by the authors of a source, making them "god-perspective" statements. Does this mean that they should be considered as canon as the source they appear in?
