The one everyone on this thread has been waiting for, Star Wars The Essential Atlas is now in stores. Thanks/congratulations to everyone on this thread who, by either contributing directly to the book or by showing your passion for Star Wars maps with your posts here, helped to make this book happen.

Yes, its kinda the successor to the Essential Guide to Planets and Moons, except it has maps and smaller planet profiles.

Wookieepedia has an article here, and the amazon listing is here

It's so far been bumped from early this year, to June 08 to Nov08 to Feb 09 to July 21 09. I hope it finally comes out then.

There's an atlas coming? Like a book all about maps of the galaxy?

In fact, there are huge inaccuracies in placement.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Atlas and am really disappointed it got bumped to next summer.

Yep. Star Wars Risk's "map" is a game board, not a canon representation of planets' location in the galaxy.

on the star wars risk it shows that kamino is in the mid rim but isn't kamino beyond the outer rim

wrvh -- thanks for the map! It's awesome and works much better than some others I've tried.

What I like is that I can download it as well as do a search. Great for finding planets that I'm reading about. Am going to try to print it out ... wish me luck!

Another inconsistency (See last post on pg 95) is found in Dark Force Rising. When Leia and Chewie meet Khabarakh he tells them it will take approximately four days to get to Honoghr from Endor and indeed a little later in the chapter it is confirmed when it says :"In the middle of the fourth day...". Later on as Leia is able to secure Khabarakh's release and agrees to bypass Endor (where she left the Falcon) and go straight to Coruscant she is told it would take "Approximately four days Lady Vader". If the distances and time involved in travel in Chapter 4 of Heir are correct as is the placing of Mrykr and Wayland then it would be impossible for Honoghr to be in the Outer Rim on the other side of Hutt Space as that is way farther out from both worlds than 4 days.
It would seem to me that Mrykr and Wayland should be much closer to Sluis Van than the map would lead us to believe and that Honoghr should be much closer to the Core worlds.

I am relatively new to the Star Wars Universe and perhaps this has already been discussed but there are a number of major flaws in every version of the galaxy map. According to Heir to the Empire "It took the Chimera nearly 5 days at it's Point Four cruising speed to cover the 350 light years between Mrkyr and Wayland"(Chapter 4) According to Modi's map the two planets are thus positioned according to this stated distance. However when Han Solo and company depart Mrkyr after rescuing Luke they head for Sluis Van which according to all versions of the map is on the opposite side of the galaxy along the Rimma Trade route (which Mrykr is nowhere near). Why would they take the weeks to travel all the way out there when Courscant (and any number of safe Core worlds) are a LOT closer?

Dan's 3900 Planetary Systems And Counting... blog talks about the systems database maintained by Jason Fry used for reference in making the Star Wars Atlas.

Actually, Hoth is the fifth planet in the Hoth system. You're right about Bespin being outermost, though.

Anyway, it's a moot point, since we know the Falcon used its poorly-patched-together backup hyperdrive to make the necessary superluminal hops from Hoth to Bespin.

Therefore, unless the Falcon slipped through a
wormhole in the Hoth Asteroid belt that no one
noticed (and I don't mean the hole in the rock caused
by the Space Slug) Bespin must be in the same
solar system as Hoth.

Not necessarily we don't know what went down and have no measure of actual distance from Hoth to Bespin, a solar system can be 1 planet or it can be a ton, for all we know hoth was the only planet in it's solar system and Bespin was the furthest out in it's solar system.

I've made a map of the galaxy far, far away.
You can browse and download it at:

Thank You! :) You have no idea how long I've been searching for a complete galaxy map with the ROTS planets in full color, if you need anything lemme know. :)

Hmm, it doesn't seem to have been mentioned here yet, so I'll bring it up . . . there's an Atlas of the Star Wars Galaxy in the brewing.

Yeah, I just saw that too! Apparently Jason Fry and Dan Wallace are working on it together. Dan mentioned in his blog that he might be doing some bean-spilling in Memphis next week. Coolness!

Modi's Star Wars Atlas seems to be the heir apparent.

Oh, wow! Indeed. Thanks for pointing me to that!

Oh, no! I go to Ecuador for a little while, and when I come back there's no more Nav-Computer website! Best of luck with getting that back online, Carty!

In the meantime, is there somewhere else that you guys would recommend I refer people to when they ask me for galaxy maps? Browsing through the last few pages, I saw a few other people have their own things going. Is there a consensus on somewhere online to find a really good galaxy map?

Dear Eric,

Thanks for the work you put into your map. I hope you find a new place to host your site soon. The planet information is invaluable.

I also hope you agree with how I adapted your map. It closely matches Modi's coordinate system now. Not exactly, but at least there's no contradictions. When in doubt I stuck to your relative positioning of the systems.

Could you tell me what the asterisks and the two different colors of the star system names mean on your map? I wanted to look it up on your site, but the navkey page wasn't cached anywhere, not even on the internet archive.

If you want a copy of the Illustrator files, send a mail to the address on my website:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~wrvh/galaxymap
I'd have asked for your source files if I new of any way to contact you, but I didn't at the time.
Besides, it was fun to draw the entire thing by hand.

Willem
