The Star Wars Essential Atlas galaxy map has recently been featured in the "Popwatch" section of Entertainment Weekly magazine's website http://popwatch.ew.com/2011/01/14/star-wars-map/. The article was later picked up by io9.com http://io9.com/5734439/a-planetary-map-of-the-entire-star-w ars-universe. Great to see the Atlas getting some mainstream attention.

And don't forget the Essential Atlas Online Companion http://www.starwars.com/atlas/index.html which includes an appendix .pdf of the coordinates of all known planets.

So I finally got my copy of the Atlas today and I have to say that it is everything I expected and more! Its ruined my day though. Everything I had planned for today has gone out the window!

Definitely the best Essential Guide by a long long way.

Picked it up yesterday and have only skimmed the galactic surface but I'm loving it. While tracking the routes of the films (and the Yuuzhaan Vong invasion!) I literally exclaimed, "This is awesome!"

Well done to all those involved.

I'm really liking it so far. It's an island of continuity in a sea of carelessness.

The Atlas is probably the best essential guide we've seen!

One request if/when you do future volumes, could you cluster all the section maps in one place, its kinda hard to find things like the Hapes Cluster when they're mixed in with the historical narritive.

The narrative is great, but if your just quickly looking for a specific map it can take a minute to remember what section its in.

Meh. Who needs narrative when you have maps? ;-)

Though I'm not a reference book sort of guy, I have to admit that these new essentials are beautiful volumes.

The one everyone on this thread has been waiting for, Star Wars The Essential Atlas is now in stores. Thanks/congratulations to everyone on this thread who, by either contributing directly to the book or by showing your passion for Star Wars maps with your posts here, helped to make this book happen.

Yes, its kinda the successor to the Essential Guide to Planets and Moons, except it has maps and smaller planet profiles.

Wookieepedia has an article here, and the amazon listing is here

It's so far been bumped from early this year, to June 08 to Nov08 to Feb 09 to July 21 09. I hope it finally comes out then.

There's an atlas coming? Like a book all about maps of the galaxy?

In fact, there are huge inaccuracies in placement.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Atlas and am really disappointed it got bumped to next summer.
