Sorry, it was a reference to a famous letter a little kid (named Virginia) wrote to a newspaper in New York in 1897 asking if there was a Santa Claus and the editor's response was a very kind and sincere confirmation that there was. All I'm saying is, as great as it would be, don't expect that they're suddenly going to stop making up random retcons for no good reason.

Who is Virginia ? :P

No, seriously. I don't understand that all this can be a mess, where it can be correct.

Perhaps I'm not on the right planet, after all.

Leland,

I know that those questions are not yet to be resolved, but :

Can we expect, one day, that TCW will stop breaking things in EU ? I have nothing against retconns, but seriously : Maul and Ventress from the same planet, a planet where men and women are at war ? Is that serious ?

Can someone say to TCW scenarists that there IS sources, guide, books, stories ? That they CAN write stories WITHOUT BREAKING things ?

I don't want to say "stop to TCW". Absolutely not. I want to say "go, make good stories, but RESPECT existing stories".

I understand that Lucasfilm want to touch a new public. But it is NOT necessary to BREAK things. It is incredible that a whole fictional universe, with thousands stories, can nearly disappear because the new cartoon must "be cool". It can be cool without making controversy with older material. How do you want to interest young people in Star Wars if, when they will be interested by the other sources, they will only see a vast mess ?

Is this a lack of imagination ? A lack of will ?

Same problem with all the "Elite Squadron" and TFU. Why, always, taking elements from the films and making things that already exists in several versions ? Because it is "cool" ? Because young public will not be interested by things that were not in the films ?

It's sad.

Please, tell me that elements from TCW will be tweaked to be retconnable. For example, we do not need an non sensitive Aurra Sing. Were is the interest in erasing things, like background ? Ridiculous.

I saw a young Aurra in the trailer, with another Jedi. Tell me that it will be coherent with her background. Ky Narec was mentionned in The Clone Wars novel. Don't tell me that the TCW meta-series won't be able to be coherent with itself ?

I'm trying to get confirmation for three new names of Rebel Pilots that were given by Hasbro recently.

  • Sila Kott: This one is a bit of a puzzle. Hasbro says he's Red Two but that's impossible since Red Two is a Y-Wing Pilot. But ... Red Three is an A-Wing Pilot, the one with the very narrow face who seems actually to have been played by a woman. I really think this must be him because otherwise Hasbro wouldn't put an A-Wing Pilot into Red Squadron. http://nl.starwars.wikia.com /wiki/Sila_Kott

So here's a continuity puzzler that came up again elsewhere - the Sovereign.

The CSWE had a surprise entry - "Sovereign: A Super Star Destroyer used by Warlord Zsinj. Other planned ships in the line included the Autarch, the Despot, and Heresiarch."
The Sovereign-class SSD was introduced in WEG's Dark Empire SB, but the class vessel itself wasn't even completed then - two years after Zsinj's death.
The only source seems to have been the original SWE, which had "Sovereign: One of Warlord Szinj's Star Destroyers." The SWE sources their entries, and gives COPL... which actually has no instance of "Sovereign". Looking further, the name crops up in the audiobook and at least one translation, as the name of the SSD destroyed by Han at the end, for some reason replacing Iron Fist.
So, here's the continuity question: the CSWE is clear in stating that the SSD Sovereign was in Zsinj's possession. The source of this, however, appears to be an error propagated over a number of years. So, should the CSWE entry be taken as accurate regardless of where originated from as being a canonical source itself, or as a mistake?

Leland, One more follow-up question about the Tantive IV/Sundered Heart. It's clear now that Bail Organa's ship in Episode III was the Sundered Heart. But my question is: does this change also apply to other appearances of the Corellian Corvette used by Bail? After all, he was in possession of both at the time.

Wookieepedia lists the following as non-ROTS appearances of the Tantive IV (pre-Episode IV):
*Bailed Out (from Clone Wars Adventures)
*Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader (mentioned only)
*Coruscant Nights I: Jedi Twilight (indirect mention only)
*Last of the Jedi: Masters of Deception (mentioned only)

All others are related to the Rebellion, and so would be the CR90 Tantive IV, but that one appearance and those other mentions are worth clarifying. Thank you!

I'm quite insure this is the good place for this question : I'd like to know whether The Sith Academy on Dathomir is the place where are the Nightsister in the video game Jedi Alliance :).

If that's the working explanation, it only works because she's a Skywalker. People tend to not remember their birth--for a very good reason.

Really? My mistake then, I thought that's what he said. Still, it seems easier to reconcile the word of a known liar than remembering Padme. I mean, I don't think "maturing earlier" usually applies to the ages of between 0 and 1 minute old. I'm fine with the explanation of Leia being naturally empathetic through the Force though (would have come in handy later as a politician).

A problem with that. The term "would have" is missing from the sentence. "Your father WANTED you to have this, when you were old enough." LFL could easily fix this, if they were to petition an author to put a similar scene (I suggested) into a novel before episode III. Though I don't know if GL would have a problem with someone else cleaning up his unintentional mess.

That one is easily remedied. Leia was force sensitive. She unintentionally picked up on her mother's emotional state through the force, after birth. The reason why Luke couldn't form such a "force bond" so quickly, is because girls mature faster than boys, including their force powers.

He can call it what he wants, but Obi-Wan is already lying like a rug at that point. From his "certain point of view," Anakin at some time or another probably would have wanted his son to have it. He said Luke's father would have wanted him to have it when he was old enough, not that he specifically did want that. I see it as a non-issue.

Leland:
Did GL approve this retcon?

An interesting question, QuiWan. I'm wondering how you thought this harder to retcon than Leia saying she remembered her mother. That's what I believe to be the weirdest bit of continuity, anyway.

Dear Leland Chee,

I tried to email this question to you, but I seem to keep getting an error message. As you probably know there are a number of inconsistencies between the PT and the CT. I've been able to eliminate all but one. In Star Wars episode IV Obi-Wan gives Luke his fathers lightsaber and says,"your father wanted you to have this when you were old enough." No where in the movies does Anakin ever say this. Is there an explanation for this, perhaps in one of the novels? Or was this a mistake by GL that really doesn't have any retconn. Other than, Obi-Wan lied? Thank you so much. If there is no explanation then, maybe Lucasfilm could petition a novelist to put this scene in a clone wars novel: Anakin: Master.
Obi-Wan: Yes Anakin
Anakin:If I had a son.....
Obi-Wan: Anakin, you know that a Jedi is forbidden from such acts.
Anakin: I know master, just saying hypothetically. Let's say if Jedi were
allowed to have such things and you had a son, and you couldn't be around for
him, like some of these refugees we just encountered, it makes me think
about it. If you were them and you had one last time to see your son, before
you died, what would you pass on to him?
Obi-Wan: If it was me, I would desire him to know the ways of the force, as I
have and I would give him my lightsaber to remember me.
Anakin: Master, if it were me, that is what I would do as well. ........Fixed! peace

Having just rewatched the entire Droids series for Republic Forces Radio Network, I'm curious what those issues are.

Nathan P. Butler wrote:Wasn't the refit itself part of the retcon through What's The Story that explained the droids being "lost" from the ship? Wasn't it during a refit shakedown?
The Droids retcon is from the What's the Story entry for Corla Metonae. There's nothing there about a refit or a shakedown. It says the droids were lost while testing the escape pods. If the test was done during a shakedown, then that's from a different source.
