*But you've got to tell me- was Christian Bale the model for Zekk? It's just...way too uncanny
a resemblance to be coincidence.
I don't really see that one.*
I don't see Bale in this one either. It's more of a resemblance to maybe James Franco.

Much of the ambiguous nature of Anakin's birth/creation was nearly removed already, but for some reason, people tend to forget all about "Vader: The Ultimate Guide" from 2005 ... Why does everyone forget that particular EU item. It's the closest we have ever gotten to a definitive statement on Anakin's creation.
Thanks Nathan. As good as the guide looked, I've never read this particular book, writing off as another media tie-in to ROTS.

*Is there anything
regarding Fenn in that novel that at all contradicts
what we've been given in other sources (similar to
how Karen Traviss overwrote Fenn's Clone Wars era
backstory a bit)?
*
Not that I've seen so far. Stover, unlike some other authors, seems to know generally when not to over-reference things.

Not, in and of itself, a bad thing.
And incidentally, Sue, let me throw in my praise for Stover in general and LSatSOM in particular. Well done all around, more of these, PLEASE! I may not have made myself very popular with my criticism of the choice to cancel the Luceno novel, but I do want to make it clear that Del Rey has certainly made some excellent choices lately, and this is one of them.

I don't really see that one. That first thing I thought when I saw the cover was " Milla?".

Sue I had bought a copy of Previews magazine on Christmas Eve and it had a preview of FOTJ by Aaron Allston but the title was called THE HIDDEN ONES instead of OUTCAST. Do you know anything about this? Is The Hidden Ones a title for a future FOTJ novel or another subtitle for FOTJ? And Happy 2009 Sue If I forgot to mention.

Wow, I'm reading Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and I am really loving it. That, along with Blood Oath's amazing cover and Wild Space being one of my favorite SW books this year, I am really satified with what has been coming out and hopeful for the future.
And Ms. Rostoni, I have a question that I don't know if it had been asked before. Will the events of Blood Oath, whatever the outcome of the storyline be (Please not the death of my Tenel Ka!) be revealed, however small, in either of the FOTJ books that come out before December? Especially say, Abyss (Which by the way is an AWESOME cover).
And please keep Ms. Miller around!

No, not necessarily. I think I had posted earlier that OUTCAST would have Luke and Ben on the front -- but we reviewed the cover yesterday and thinks it will look better with just Luke (Ben on the back) -- Plus, the FOTJ is going to have a completely different cover treatment than what we've used in the past.*
Sounds very interesting I look forward to seeing it!
I don't think having a EU character featured on the front is going to make a difference to readers -- it hasn't in the past, for the most part.
Again, very interesting. I was just wondering because the way Zekk looks is a lot like that famous picture of Qui-Gon and thought it was through back to maybe make new people get a sense of familiarity.

Well, first off, the Blood Oath cover is great. If you've been reading the other forums, you probably know that I've been disappointed with most covers since basically the beginning of the NJO... Shadows of Mindor and Blood Oath are EXACTLY what I've been wanting. But you've got to tell me- was Christian Bale the model for Zekk? It's just...way too uncanny a resemblance to be coincidence.
I haven't finished Mindor yet, but it's quite good so far, mostly for the reunion of Wedge/Wes/Hobbie/Tycho. That's one of the EU's greatest teams, and it's been so long since we've seen them together (Hobbie hasn't shown up in ages himself). I'm loving it, I've got to say. Any chance we can see them together more often in the future?

*Not to flog an already moot point, but his birthday couldn't have been in those six months?
And if Mindor does indeed fall at 5.1 ABY, who ever said RotJ wasn't set at 4.6 or 4.7 ABY? RotJ would still be classified as 4 ABY no matter when in the year it was placed..*
The comment about the Luke age reference (24, not 23) was in reference to the date when the book itself says the events occur: six months after ROTJ. It was not in reference to the newly-given 5.1 ABY date.
Either way, though, Luke would not turn 24 until around 40:5:X (X being a day of the month that is likely in the 20's, depending on how Order 66's day count affects previously-established dates for ROTS).
*Fenn freaking Shysa from 1984's Marvel comics!!! *
It's taking me ages to get through LSATSOM because of other obligations right now. Is there anything regarding Fenn in that novel that at all contradicts what we've been given in other sources (similar to how Karen Traviss overwrote Fenn's Clone Wars era backstory a bit)?

Finally, I have to take a moment to praise Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor. LFL gets a lot of heat these days for some of the problems that have arisen, but this is one of those instances where everyone involved deserves a round of applause. I mean you've got a winning combination here:
Matt Stover at the helm
An interesting, creative, well-written, fun story
Luke, Han, Leia, Chewie, droids: together again (and all in character, thank the Maker!)
Blackhole from Manning's 1978 newspaper strips!!! (and his shadowtroopers!)
Fenn freaking Shysa from 1984's Marvel comics!!!
New planets, new aliens, new threats
That's what the EU is all about! And for me, these are some of the ingredients that make for a winning SW book! Kudos to LFL, Del Rey and Matt Stover! Now when's the next book coming out!? (What? Stover mentioned he was writing it in the vein of Brian Daley's books -- and that was a loosely-formed trilogy).

Really GREAT cover! Wow! It's got a very classic sci-fi/fantasy look from the heydey of the genre! Good choice guys! And I have to say, the description has got me itching to read it!
And is that woman in the back holding Morag the Tulgah Witch's staff!?! That looks like the Sunstar/Shadowstone! Either that, or I've been immersed in the SW Universe for far too long!

When does this actually take place? The sort of "opening crawl" puts it six months after ROTJ (4.5 ABY, so to speak), but Luke is referenced as being 24 (not 23, as he should be during the year following ROTJ).
Not to flog an already moot point, but his birthday couldn't have been in those six months?
And if Mindor does indeed fall at 5.1 ABY, who ever said RotJ wasn't set at 4.6 or 4.7 ABY? RotJ would still be classified as 4 ABY no matter when in the year it was placed...

I did enjoy it, Dynamic Dickering Duo aside. I'm really most excited about the trade paperback format, though, and hope to see more of these in the future.

Sue, with the new Blood Oath cover being revealed, can we expect that is what most of FOTJ novel covers will look like: A main character and then minor characters in the background? Also, does Lucasbooks think using EU characters on covers might impede sales due to some fans having no idea who they are or will it become more common because knowledge of the EU is growing?
PS-- Really, really looking forward to seeing the Outcast cover and the EUC interview! Congrats with +Wild Space+-- one the best of '08, as I see it.
