My thoughts exactly.

Though I will never complain about Mara's cover because she was my favorite character of all time! :)

And as you said, I'm satisfied with Invincible but it's always nice to see a heroine looking somewhat glamorous.

Maybe next time...

Myri, you are such a voice of reason that I would think you were Leia Organa herself.

And I agree; while I'm satisfied with the Invincible cover, part of me has this conversation in my head:

"So you'll use a gorgeous photo of Mara that clearly does not represent her actual age of 60-ish, but the one picture you use of Jaina is that one?"

That's probably a little harsh; I think the cover shows great motion and +e+motion. I guess the vain part of me wishes to see my very favorite character in all her gorgeous gloriousness!

Ah, well, maybe the next one.

A. C. Crispin book on Princess Leia!

Any books that feature forgotten characters having adventures, even/especially if they occur during other time points in the series. . I'd like to see anything on some of the old Bantam characters that have gotten left out during the NJO/Dark Nest/LOTF periods. For example, adventures of some of the early Jedi (Kyle Katarn/Tionne/Kam Solusar/Corran Horn/Kirana Ti, etc) that may not have been documented elsewhere

More Barbara Hambley and Kathy Tyers!

I would love to see a novel by John Jackson Miller or Jon Ostrander, if they would be interested.

Book(s) that bridges NJO and Dark Nest and Dark Nest and LOTF. Especially featuring Mara, as a tribute to her.

Adult novels set during the time period of Young Jedi Knights.

Young reader novels by Jude Watson--I'm actually thinking she would do a really good job of writing about a new set of "Young Jedi Knights"--like the Horn kids and their fellow padawans?

Well, I for one love the Invincible cover. I just love that it's a Jaina cover in the first place. And I do think it captures her well.

I also really love the cover of The Force Unleashed that was released today! I know it's artwork we've sort of seen before, but I just think it looks cool.

Speaking of which, Sue, is there a possibility for more Force Unleashed books if the franchise is successful? Or would this be dependent on whether they make a video game sequel?

Sue, I was wondering if the statute of limitations had expired for us to express our wishes for the new contract. I don't think I have done so yet. Here are my dreams:

nope. but anyway its tough to look peaceful or good
on this type of cover. she is in a desperate struggle
for her life, and she is a burning brand, the sword.
thus this cover is understandable. mara was not in a
duel on her cover.

Well, you can see the pain and desperation on her face as well as the anger.

Before we go too far into a discussion about the subjective interpretation of a piece of artwork on this thread .....

Perhaps someone could take it upon themselves to resurrect the LoTF Covers discussion thread? I?m sure many people would join in the discussion and welcome the debate, as the new cover has certainly struck different chords with a broad range of people.

It might also serve to leave the floor clear for others who wish to share their initial reaction to the cover with Sue.

"Again, if your brother had killed your aunt and you were sent to confront him, knowing you would have to kill him, would you show "dignity", or would you be just plain angry?"

You know ...

That really depends on the kind of person you are. Luke slipped into "angry" for a few minutes there when he turned Vader, but a few minutes only. And had he stayed in "angry," would Vader have turned?

Myri, if your brother had just killed your aunt,
and
you confronted him, would you be all rosey and
cheerful about it?

That's not quite what I meant, hon. Mara doesn't
look cheerful on the cover of Sacrifice,
either. Yet through the strength and resolve, the
dignity of the character shines through.

And if in her ultimate trial Jaina's foremost emotion
is anger, then the message of Luke's legacy has
failed to reach her.

Again, if your brother had killed your aunt and you were sent to confront him, knowing you would have to kill him, would you show "dignity", or would you be just plain angry? This isn't meant to be a photo into Jaina's heart, or a resounding message of anything, its a frameshot of the explosive conclusion to the series.

I don't see that as graying hair, I think that's the lighting. The dark side doesn't age everyone quickly. Palpatine's appearance was similar for years prior to the Windu confrontation.

He has the red tint to his hair on the side of his saber, the purple from the saber above and then the white colored from what could be background lighting.

Then again, I could be all wrong!!

*> You are entitled to your opinion, but I think you are
off base.*

I fully appreciate the fact that this is a classic case of "you can't please all of the people all of the time."

I have no doubt that the design of the cover has the intended mass market appeal. My opinion is just that . an opinion.

Carry on. :)

Are we sure that it's Jacen on the cover with Jaina? I'm assuming it is but can we really be sure?

Interesting. . .Very interesting indeed?:|

OK, enough of this mushy talk. I understand your overall point, however the cover of this particular book is not the place for it. She is going to KILL HER BROTHER. By that point, I'm assuming they know he killed Mara, and I'm also taking a guess that someone else signigicant might go.

I'm sure once this ordeal is over(via death or redemption), there will be a peace for Jaina, although tinged with undoubted bitterness having likely lost both brothers.

And speaking of prior covers for Jaina, take the example of Dark Journey. That was Jaina at her darkest, yet the cover was a peaceful, pretty picture of her.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I think you are off base.

Well, I'm going to go out on a limb and be the first
dissenting opinion.

The artistry of the new cover is stunning. And
conceptually, it fires the imagination.

However, I am dismayed that - for a young woman who
is purportedly every bit as lovely as her mother - we
most frequently see the character of Jaina depicted
as a grossly contorted, angry young woman. I believe
the last time we saw her as anything other was the
Japanese cover of Final Prophecy.

Perhaps this is intentional - a window into the soul
over the last 10 years of Jaina's life. Nonetheless,
I hope that on the cover of subsequent novels, we see
the inner - as well as the outer - beauty of this
character shine through.
