Is that really what they said?

Not directly, but...

+Henry: George gave Dave and I a lot of freedom and he didn't want us to be limited by what the EU had established. In fact, there were times I was really challenged by him to create something new, yet I tried to be true to what came before. On one occasion, I even got in trouble when I tried to be stubbornly true to the OT and he wanted something different. George said about me, "Henry is too married to the movies." +

+Initially, there were things that were off limits by George himself, but as I will go into later, he simply changed his mind and opened up the entire Star Wars Galaxy to `Dare to be Great!' Initially, that took some re-thinking for Dave and I as we realized that George wanted to get out of the box of what was and push the boundaries of what Star Wars could be. +

I'd look for more, but it's making me a little sick.

I think it was more that he wanted to tell his story the way he wanted to, regardless of what others had established in the EU, and he gets to do that. He's the boss.

I can understand both sides. If I were the creator, I wouldn't want my imagination to be limited. On the other hand, as a fan, it can be difficult to put an interest in continuity if portions of it become overwritten. There are serious fans out there that take continuity seriously, some obsessively. Reading novels become more than just reading them.

Sometimes I do wonder how the authors feel about this. Do they really mind, or do they have a "hey, I got paid for my work... it's cool..." attitude? If the later is the case, then maybe it's not that big a deal.

Will there be any effort to bring together the old (Republic, novels, ...) and new (TCW) clone wars continuity? I mean, is it still true there'll be a new official timeline after the later TCW seasons have aired?

Yes, I believe Leland is working on it.

said GL encouraged them to violate the EU...

Is that really what they said? I can't see George going in and saying "Hey, I encourage you to violate the EU." I think it was more that he wanted to tell his story the way he wanted to, regardless of what others had established in the EU, and he gets to do that. He's the boss.

And lets not forget that recent interview where the TCW creators basically said GL encouraged them to violate the EU...

And the new Clone Wars series would, without a lot of work by Leland, make the old Clone Wars series by Del Rey and Dark Horse non cannon, destroying everything they worked 3-4 years to put in place.

It seems that George doesn't mind overwriting huge portions of th EU when it suits him. Thats what worries me.

Lucas isn't stupid.

I'm sure they know what they're doing. TFU established the exact date of the Rebellion's FORMAL creation, and nothing's going to change that. In-fact, Lucas can't change that date because that would make TFU non-canon, and would destroy everything they worked 3, 4, or 5 years to put in place.

It's hardly the linchpin of the EU you're making it out to be.

Thats what worries me. He approved the 2 BBY date, and I think he's about to say, screw that, lets move it back 16 years.

So many problems with that...

Henning, if you expect Lucas to restrict himself to EU sources, you are going to be sorely disappointed.

Liking the 501st cover, Sue. Pass along my regards to the people who made it possible.

Also, a question... a while back you mentioned that Backlash got moved to January 26th. The thing is, that date was at that time slotted to be the release date for Crosscurrent. So my question is, did Crosscurrent get moved to accommodate Backlash, and if so, what is the new date?

Sorry for hijacking your thread earlier, Sue.

I'll apologize by asking another question:

Will we be encountering Zonama Sekot anytime soon? It seems so bizarre how total the removal of the Vong from the galaxy has been so soon after the end of the war. I'd like to see how our favorite scarfaces are doing.

  • he, and the coming together of the Rebel Alliance, was already featured heavily in the very Lucas-involved story of "the Force Unleashed".

So why are you so passionately worried about a hypothetical continuity problem that has already been avoided in a higher-canonity-than-usual, Lucas supported storyline?*

Well:According to Lucas, the show will focus on minor characters from the saga and be set in the time period between "Revenge of the Sith" (Episode III) and the original "Star Wars" (Episode IV). The action will follow the Rebel Alliance as it slowly gains strength against the Empire. (http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2009/03/09/exclusive-star-war s-live-action-tv-series-casting-underway/)

Well, if it starts any time before 2 BBY, then it cannot be about the Rebel Alliance because it isn't formed yet. It can follow other smaller rebellions but not THE Rebellion.

And since Lucas has blocked off from about 16 BBY onwards for this that causes a HUGE problem.

Are you allowed to give us the name of the model used for Zekk's depiction on Blood Oath's cover ?

For Zekk, Dave Seeley didn't use any particular model. He went off previous descriptions of Zekk and created the art from inside his head.

Sue, here's something that occurred to me, if you can answer it- does George Lucas read the EU often? Sometimes? At all? Just curious.

As far as I know, he reads only the comics (and I'm not certain if he reads only certain series or all of the comics....)
