Like I said, no disrespect intended. It's just frustrating when I buy, say, Destiny's Way in hardback, then Ylesia on line, can't afford to print it off so I spend hours in front of the comp reading it, then find out I could just buy the whole thing a year later for 6 bucks. Anyway, as far as you keeping the storyline together over there, you're obviously doing a great job. I just want to praise Steve Perry & Michael Reaves on Death Star. Being a huge Timothy Zahn fan and being slightly disappointed in Allegience, I wasn't sure I wanted to read another story in that area of time(around A New Hope that is). But you guys knocked it out of the park, man. Just about to start True Colors and I'm salivating. Ms. Traviss has quickly won me over in just 4 novels. I've had it since Wed. the 31st but it's tough working alot of overtime and raising a 10 month old and trying to find time to read too.

Not trying to be disrespectful, but what's in it for fans like me who have been supporting Star Wars for 30 years? I understand you want to reach new readers and maybe give them a little incentive to pick up your product, but it's just the same with action figure collecting where Hasbro releases another Darth Vader every year. They have to look after new customers as well as veterans, but you end up with 40 different Vaders if you're a completionist. Is there no way to give a true fan something extra for spending 26 dollars on a new product instead of waiting a year for the paperback, missing out on story line in the meantime? Is it wrong for me to feel a little taken advantage of if your main focus is to attract new readers and not worry about us that you've already won over?

Hello. This is my first time on this particular thread. Just let me get the brown-nosing out of the way. I've been reading SW novels nearly my entire life, including the OT novels & the Thrawn Trilogy when it was new. My favorite writers to date have to be Karen Traviss(novels), as I'm a huge Mando fan, and John Ostrander/ Jan Duursema(comics). And that's saying something since I've pretty much abandonded reading anything other than SW.
Anyway, my question is for Sue Rostoni. I buy everything brand new, usually the day it's released. A couple of years back, I broke down and bought Tatooine Ghost in softcover for the 2 added short stories. Now I own 2 copies of this book. I read that Betrayal will have a couple of Vader related short stories. Doesn't it seem that people who aren't dedicated fans and wait for the paperback are rewarded with something extra while I need to be putting food in my child's mouth, rather than 2 copies of every hardback on my shelf?

"Leia's backstory- It doesn't have to be the whole thing, but the time when she was a senator/spy/active in the Rebel Alliance is begging for a novel."

Ann Crispin writes that she wanted to do this, but was refused permission. Apparently LFL is saving that ground in case they want to do it for the TV series.

I'm gonna add on to the wish list by saying it would be awesome to see another book or books written by Troy Denning. If I see his name on the cover I know I'll love the book.

My wish list:

Leia's backstory- It doesn't have to be the whole thing, but the time when she was a senator/spy/active in the Rebel Alliance is begging for a novel.

Stand alone novels in the vain of Tatoonine Ghost and Surveror's Quest. Where you delve into a couple characters as they do missions.

Jude Watson doing a younger kid series with Jacen training Ben before LOTF. She rocks at this types of book and as an adult I even read them.

Hello, this is my first post. please be nice!

Welcome aboard. :-)

I would like to see some Shaak Ti novels. She rocks.

Once, there was a Shaak Ti novel in development, called "Escape from Dagu," by William C. Dietz. Alas, after Shatterpoint's sales were disappointing, the decision was made not to go forward with another novel focusing on a lesser known Jedi, and Yoda: Dark Rendezvous was published instead.

She is going to get her own webcomic in the near future, though, so don't lose hope. :-)

  • And a novel about Lumiya would be nice too.*

I dunno if you're aware of this, but Lumiya's origin was in the old Marvel Comics, which Dark Horse has since reprinted as their "A Long Time Ago ..." series. There's quite a bit of her in the 4th, 6th, and 7th volume of that series. I know it's not a novel, but if you're looking for more Lumiya, that's where to look.

Is this a suggestion thread or a wish list thread? Cause if it were a wish list, #1 on that list would be JAINA/JAG!!!!!!!

Maybe another series with rotating authors like LOTF, but with James Luceno, Drew Karpyshyn, Walter Jon Williams(author of Destiny's Way, one of the best NJO books in my opinion), and Greg Keyes.

  • Infinities novelizations - have full length AU novels as opposed to just the comics. I want to read about a post-LOTF era where Anakin Solo survived the NJO, for example.
  • More about DROIDS, what's canon and what's Infinities about the cartoon? I loved watching that, as well as EWOKS (although DROIDS was preferable).
  • Tales From/Of The New Jedi Order, perhaps? More short stories anthologies would be nice, as I greatly enjoyed all the Tales From? books from the Bantam era.
  • Kyle Katarn - anything, please? novelization of Dark Forces? What he did between DF1 and JK1? what happened between JK:JA and NJO? Did he eventually marry Jan Ors or not?
  • More Clone Wars novels, with Obi Wan
  • Pellaeon and Piett, anything interesting happen to them before we first encountered them?

I'd like to see more but that's all I can think of at the moment?

Wish List:-

  • More books with Luke and Mara, either together, or individually
  • More Yoda-centric novels, either pre-Prequel Era, or maybe even a short story on Car'das and the Bpfasshi Dark Jedi, when Yoda "intervened"
  • Bring back Timothy Zahn and Michael A. Stackpole!
  • Empire Of The Hand, Thrawn, the Chiss, the Fel dynasty
  • X-Wing novels / comics / games, featuring Alston and Stackpole characters
  • KOTOR 1&2 novels, detailing the 'historical' events as opposed to the many varied ways the players can end the games
  • More on Sidious' machinations prior to TPM, like Cloak Of Deception

TBC?

I too wish that the series had provided a larger role for Tenel Ka. Her situation on Hapes along with her loyalty pretty much kept her there. She's had a large impact and not as much screen time.

At least Troy Denning seems to include her in almost all of his novels and does a very good job at getting into her head. Hopefully we see more of her in the future.

I get some bad headaches when I play video games sometimes. There are loads of games I would love to play, but find myself unable to. Mostly I want to play for the story rather than any gameplay elements. One such game is Knights of the Old Republic. Yeah, can't play it. Five minutes and I'm out for five hours at least. So I'm sure most of you can see where this is going. I would LOVE to have some kind of novelization of both Knights of the Old Republic games. I hear so much about how fun the games are to play and the great twists and turns in the story, but unless I go read a game walkthrough which isn't mean't to be used in such a way at all I'll never get a good account of the game. Some of you who have played the games may have no interest in reading it, but I know I would. I'm very happy The Force Unleashed is being released as a novel too in case the game (I'll be getting the Wii version) gives me headaches.

That was general, now about ideas ;)
By my book wish list:
  • Lando and Taanab staff
  • Dooku his intigues and his fall
  • Han (and Leia) getting old (something like Tatoone Ghost, but 40 years later, similar to Old Man and the See ;))
  • Duloks vs Ewoks
  • another Darth Maul novel
  • something about of Naboo in Empire: Jar Jar, Panaka, the Naberrie family
  • some hutt staff like AC Crispin trilogy (bring her back :D)

And I really would like to know, how do you handle with tv series books ;)

Here is my wish staff:

In a matter of series I would like to see some creation of Separatist year by year with fall of Dooku etc (some Rome or George R R Martin style). And later maybe on next contract the KOTOR era serier, but maybe after the games, that makes you totaly free, even more than in Legacy (it's obvious that you do not have big free, so you can kill anybody).

But series is one, the second thing is books. I think that in past years there was a problem, beacasue we had mostly books with prequels characters, than mostly with classic trilogy. I would like to have diffirent books in one year (not from main series). That is only sugestion ;). Something like one book with classic trilogy char, one with prequels and four books of series in particular year.

On a related note to TheSithEmpire's request (which I of course echo), I have a question I've been meaning to ask. Has Lucasfilm ever thought about looking to authors of historical novels as potential sources of new blood? Given the richness of the EU, and the research needed to exploit that richness for the greatest benefit, I would think that authors already experienced with that sort of research might have something to offer Star Wars readers.

The only caveat I have is that the authors hired are ones willing to get their hands dirty to do research in the EU. . .The expanded universe is amazingly interwoven at this point, but not impervious to harm. Authors who only care about carving their own niche in the saga damage and blemish that framework, and thus should be avoided.

I think all of us agree on that

Sue wrote: "So. If you want to post what you'd like to see without adding story plot points, etc., I'll jot it down, but I don't have time to respond to each question."

Simply this: Any era or subject is fine with me. The only caveat I have is that the authors hired are ones willing to get their hands dirty to do research in the EU. We've seen some great recent examples in Traviss, Stover, Luceno, Allston, Watson and Denning. In the past, we had the wonderful Ann Crispin (who's EU research was outstanding!) The expanded universe is amazingly interwoven at this point, but not impervious to harm. Authors who only care about carving their own niche in the saga damage and blemish that framework, and thus should be avoided.

On a similarly related note, I think that unless video games are going to be multimedia events where the story is deftly woven into the rest of the EU, the creators should just be allowed to envision whatever they want for game purposes under the Infinities label.
