Hi Karen - I've got an abstract question for you: when you're in the process of writing a story, and not physically typing or writing, how much time do you spend brainstorming per se in the created reality of the characters? Being that I'm only a college student, I figure I have less our-reality responsibilities to detract from my mind being off in the created reality than you would, but ?

(TRAIN OF THOUGHT DERAILMENT!!)

Gargh. I should not be writing these things out only half an a hour after getting up. I suppose I ask because of late I've gotten the impression that I spend too much time in the created reality, and so when it comes to real-world issues, I just shrug my shoulders and say "Meh." Or clap my hands over my ears and say, "She canna take any more o' this, sir!"

Thank you. I treat all sources with caution, and I never assume anything, but I have a feeling that the easier a medium is to use, the more open it is to error and misuse.

Controlling access to the internet and dictating its content is anathema to me, though; so we just have to be more discerning readers and take responsibility for thinking critically. It's not a bad habit to get into for life in general, of course.

Karen, I loved your comments in the VIP thread about Wikis and pretty much most online sources. Even though it took a professional journalist to bring it up, it's still nice to see that there are people out there who use the internet and don't trust it with every aspect of their lives :)

He's specifically named four times in the GAR article Ryan and I wrote for Insider as the commander of the 41st Elite.

Seems clear to me...

I know about 'em because I'm the one who wrote 'em.

Is Gree the leader of the 41st Elite Legion (is he a Senior Clone Commander) or the 9th Assault Corps (is he a Clone Marshal Commander)? The wording of the sentence is confusing some of us over there at TF.N.

Of course, there's always the Star Wars wiki pages.
Faie
Keller

If you don't find the info there or here, the author of the comics probably hadn't wrote it yet, and perhaps never will.

I don't have any background on them, I'm afraid. If It's not in the database here, I don't have it either, because there's nothing in my version of the 'Cron. I haven't seen Republic 81: might be worth asking Leland over on BCATQs.

Could you give us a little background info on Commanders Faie and Keller? And could you please tell me why Faie is wearing 327th Corps armor in +Republic 81+?

Some ARCs had phase II armour and some didn't. The Nulls felt they were just fine they way they were, in external appearance anyway. Ordo insists he'll never be a fashion victim. ;)

The RCs, to the best of my knowledge, didn't change appearance. The armour might have gone through various colour customisation, and the systems and materials were upgraded, but the external shape of the kit didn't.

The images of the RCs that you've seen are all the same. They all come from Greg Knight, the artist at LucasArts who did all the graphic work for RepCom, so if you think you can see a change, it's just angle or lighting.

Ok, and while we're on the subject of ARC's, did they get an armour facelift like the regular CT's? I know they use heavier armour, but it still looks like the original CT armour, just...bulkier.

Ok, so what about the avatars on your LJ? There's one
entitled N-11, and I'm guessing that's Ordo. Was Ordo
the ARC leading the strike force against Greivous in
Ep 21 of Clone Wars?

Ordo wasn't in the Clone War cartoon: none of the Nulls were. I invented the Null ARCs (and thus Ordo) for Targets, the short story I wrote for Insider last year. The Nulls have only featured in my stuff, but LFL let me retcon two of them (N-10, Jaing, and N-6, Kom'rk) into the clone intelligence units who located Grievous as mentioned in RotS.

The ARC captain on the LJ avatar I sometimes use is Ordo - same as the GS avatar.

So the red ARC that's on your SW avatar is Ordo?

The avatar here? No, it's not.

(But the one I use on the Galactic Senate boards is - I can't recall who made that avatar for me, but it's one of the LJ SW folk.)

And the Darth Vader blog link that's listed....is
that where the bbq'd ewok concept comes from? Cuz it
sure is a good idea ;)

It predates that, I think. It came from a spirited discussion I had in another forum with Policrat, aka Thrawn McEwok. I can't recall who started the escalating barbecue war but I took umbrage at his suggestion of Fett burgers...yeah, I reckon he started it. ;)

Hey Karen,

I was checking out your LJ (my username's nikster89, BTW) and I have a couple new questions. I think you'd mentioned something about this before, but me, being as s l o w as I am, am only starting to comprehend this now...

Karen, I was just wondering if you have anymore SW short stories upcoming. And, if you do, are they Vader ones, RC ones, or completely new ones?

Then MythBusters have to come in and sort it all out...

Reason for asking where you got the information is that I know there's a lot of sites out there and not all of them are exactly reliable.

My journo alarm triggers when I see questions are expressed as statements. Then they acquire a life of their own. My main concern is that if we do it with fiction, we eventually end up doing it with fact without noticing. It's a slippery slope. Then MythBusters have to come in and sort it all out...

It's a shame that it's so hard to get hold of Insider. They do back copies, I know, but when I've looked online, the only ones I can see are pretty old. I'll be very naughty and quote what we wrote in the GAR feature in #84:

Jango Fett's genome proved to be the perfect template for Kamino's cloning experts, giving them ideal genes to work with, although some adjustments were needed to produce a reliable infantry soldier. By manipulating those dominant genes found throughout the diverse ethnic types in the Mandalorian population, the Kaminoans were able to select for behavioral tendencies such as loyalty, courage, aggression and a strong sense of discipline. The selection of those genes, and the removal of the undesirable ones that made Jango Fett a defiant loner - a weakness in an infantry soldier - predisposed the clones to be highly disciplined and willing to follow orders, qualities essential to an effective army. Genes alone, though, do not dictate behavior or performance. That genetic advantage had to be further developed by rigorous physical and mental training and constant drill to create disciplined, fit, skilled soldiers. The outcome was as near to the ideal fighting man as was humanly achievable.

No, that's not so. Where are you getting all this, or are you guessing?

My bad. I was guessing. As for the GAR article in Insider, I'd love to read it. If I could get my hands on a copy of it. And I do remember Kal's quote from RC:HC. I'll research next time before shooting my helmet off. :p

They really are most unpleasant, viewed from the outside anyway. Eugenics at its worst.
