Not only that, but the other one of us who was encouraging Master Clemins, Hedec Ga, also got another winning entry!

Yeah, check that out! My first full entry! Who would've thought that Dusty Duck would be canon, but I'm glad it is. Makes me all warm and tingly inside...

Thanks for the shout-out Abel. My BTS blog's up if anyone here's interested.

Arf Maul:

*Apparently there was a lot of stuff cut out in editing. *

Arr, tis true... But cut material never dies, the saying goes. It just gets recycled.

jSarek:

*Apparently not the comment in the article itself about it, though:

"I've included the desired update on the mercenary body Aurodium Sword, may it please the Emperor."*

Yeah, that still made it in. Imagine that what you see is only a sampling of Seerdon's doc.

I guess the fact that Tigellinus was never sent into a losing battle with the Hapan war fleet bodes poorly for Barkbone.

I'm sure Dan has his own take, but I see this feud culminating in an epic final battle worthy of a grand admiral.

Seriously, this Barkbone fella is growing on me. He was already fun in the NEGtC, getting one of the best lines in the book, and now that he's tied in with Grant and Tigellinus - and his tale was no less fun this time around - I'm hooked.

Music to hear. :)

Take care,
Abel

I wanted a classic match-up for Barkbone, and I figured his "legend" would be that much greater if his chief rival was a grand admiral. It's kinda campy, but Star Wars is often campy, and I like that side.

*Abel,

Were you ever told why your Atha Prime retcon in the Fact Files didn't make print, and do you think he (and all thnigs related to him) will ever be worked back in?*

I didn't have a very close relationship with the last editor of the Fact Files, so I never knew what happened with the Atha Prime thing. I can't say for sure whether or not he'll ever make it into the canon.

Master Ki-Aaron-Mundi:

I hate to ask such a stupid question--especially in light of you writing such an awesome article, and it I guess demonstrating that I must not've paid as much attention as I should've--but, you said in your blog that the Appendix would include "an update on the mercs of Aurodium Sword." Besides the quick blurb at the beginning of such an expansion, where exactly in the Appendix does it appear?

It's more like I'm the one who didn't pay much attention. Ryan had written an update to Aurodium Sword for the Underworld Appendix, but it was cut by the editors for some reason. Some of the folks who had winning entries in the What's The Story contest may have had similar experiences. It's unfortunate, it was a well-written piece, but these things happen.

Again, sorry for my apparent lack of observation skills. On the whole, great article--loved the story on Reginald Barkbone (I remember Mr. Wallace's endnotes on the NEGTD saying he wsa 'specially created for the Guide, and I'm glad to hear he's got a real story now),

Ah, Regie... I think Dan and I share an affinity for the campy side of Star Wars. When I read the name Reginald Barkbone and his silly space pirate talk, I was hooked. I asked Dan if he'd mind me expanding on the character a bit for Underworld, and he was all for it.

the inclusion of Jaxxon, and the expansion of illegal substances.

The drugs section was wicked delight. Including one of the silliest creations in all Star Warsdom, "Planet of Kadril's" paci-fog was cathartic.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks Aaron, we will.

Take care,
Abel

*Thoughts on the online supplement:

Always love a Jedi Prince reference.*

That makes two of us.

The fact that you made reference to what I consider on of the worst Tales stories ever and made it work was rather cool.

Thanks. I actually enjoyed that story, and sympathy always helps when coming up with a good retcon.

Got a trip out of seeing my main man Jaxxon's name in print again.

True that. It'd been too long since we were treated to Jax's personality.

The gang names were quite obscue, you didn't mention Bromstaad boys or the Nashtah Gang my personal favorite obscure gangs but whatever.

Ryan pulled Jaxxon and swoop duties. There are a ton of swoopers in Star Wars lore.

Is Vanya new?

In a way. Dash Rendar makes a joke about having a rich Twi'leki uncle in Shadows of the Empire. Now we learn that "Uncle" Vanya was once his employer, so it's sort of true! Again, very cool little detail by Ryan.

BoShek calling Han a pirate, how rude.

Heh heh.

Tigellinus is a fool. (Happy 5th)

Happy 5th?

A lot of winners have noted that their wins came from entries that they thought were not their best, or were from entries that didn't particularly interest them at first.*

That's exactly how it was for me. Keep at it, Master Clemins!

so ummm i got the essential driods book like you said Abel...its pretty cool!

Told ya. ;) You can tell Dan put a lot of effort into that book.

lol i did a "whats the story" thingy a few times....lol but sadly i guess im just not creative enough

I wouldn't draw that conclusion, Master Clemins. Editors can be unintentionally biased toward certain sensibilities, but that doesn't mean what you're writing ain't good. If you feel strongly about contributing to Star Wars, steel yourself and keep submitting.

jSarek:

Exactly. In fact, that was very much the situation with Who's Who: Imperial Grand Admirals, believe it or not. But when my original editor at Star Wars Gamer gave the green light and I began collaborating with Dan Wallace, I got quite into it.

Take care,
Abel

Don't give up, Master Clemins. There's always a chance. A lot of winners have noted that their wins came from entries that they thought were not their best, or were from entries that didn't particularly interest them at first.

*Underworld Appendix: Swoops, Spice, and Wretched Rogues is now online, packed with Abeltastic goodies as usual *

Indeed it is! Check it out folks!

*Oicunn!!! Awesome *

I promised to make an effort to reference the What's the Story winning entries in future projects, so here's the first.

Hedec Ga:

Yeah, I'd love to read the endnotes on how Oicunn got selected for such a great honor.

"I had a promise to keep... to some old friends." ;)

Yay, Abel and Ryan, but also congratulations to Danielle F and JawaJames!

Good writing, fellas!

Take care,
Abel

IllogicalRogue2:

*Thanks Abel *

You got it. ;)

*Hey Abel, not sure if you'd know the answer to this, but I thought I'd ask anyway:

Something that recently came up, The Praetorite Vong, they weren't wiped out in VP right, they still were out there, just behind the scenes, Shedao Shai was a member, as was Nom Anor, Nor tried to gain power by beating Shai to the invasion by the premature attacks. right?*

I haven't looked into those early NJO books in quite a while, but off the top of my head, that sounds right.

*I wonder if they all will be put into Novel format down the line. I'm realy enjoying Watson's work, the way the stories from ALL have been tried together. Bog and Sano and Astri were in the last one *

Watson's created a nice universe for herself to work in. That's one of the neat things once you've published a few Star Wars projects, you have all these characters and plotpoints you can confortably revisit. You don't want to be too gratuitous about it, of course, but a line here and a line there is a nice thing.

*Sure does, not only were Anakin and Halcyon friends, it would be cool to know Anakin was with him when he died. *

Right? :)
