I just bought The new essential guide to alien species, and it states that the Iktotchi have clarevoyance abilities. Whereas in every other source material it states that the species is in fact telepathic. I was wondering if this was forgotten when TNEGTAS was written or do they have both abilities? By the way the book was well done in case any one was wondering.

Actually, since these are used as equipment, I think most wound up in the New Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology.
4. Vonskyrs and Voxxons
You'll be happy to know that vornskrs are also in the original EGAS, though it was made too early for voxyn.
6. ET's species (if they count as a Star Wars species, not just an Easter Egg in Ep. 1)
Nope, they exist, though for obvious copyright reasons they have to be referred to obliquely and thus aren't likely to get a spot in an Essential Guide. Their homeworld (from Cloak of Deception, IIRC) is Brodo Asogi, a name that originated in an obscure book called E.T.: The Book of the Green Planet.

Guess I'm going to have to search through every used bookstore in my university town now. My hometown didn't have it, though I did find the original Essential Guide to Vehicles and the Guide to Characters.
You might be able to get it as a special order from your local new book store; their distributors probably still have a copy or two. Failing that, there's always online bookstores.
Still, if you make a volume 2, could you see if you could include the following?
Unless Del Rey changes policies, I think we're pretty unlikely to see a follow-up volume instead of a future revision.

Welcome to the boards, HelenK, and thanks for the great job you did on this guide! 
I understand you couldn't include everything; you'd need a book at least twice the size to do that.
Still, if you make a volume 2, could you see if you could include the following?
1. Ysalamari, since I think they are essential to the EU, and deserve at least a mention
2. That lava serpent thing Luke fought in the first Jedi Academy book.
3. A page on various Yuuzhan Vong creatures.
4. Vonskyrs and Voxxons, since Anakin Solo did give his life to eliminate the Voxxons, so maybe an examination of their biology would let us see why that was so necessary.
5. Duloks! (I always thought they looked suspiciously similar to a certain, holiday-stealing Dr. Seuss character)
6. ET's species (if they count as a Star Wars species, not just an Easter Egg in Ep. 1) |

I'm glad everyone seems to be enjoying the NEGAS. 
Just a couple of comments...
Re: Ysalamiri - we couldn't include everything. Ann and I had to make some difficult decisions, considering all the new material we had to include. Unfortunately, the ysalamiri were cut to create space for other species.
Re: Yoda's Species - the name of Yoda's Species has been lost to the annals of time... or hidden very carefully. Not even Senior Anthropologist Doole could discover it. But we had to call them something.  |

Given what you've said, you'd probably greatly enjoy a copy of the original Essential Guide to Alien Species. Some of it would be reduplication, but it does have a number of species this book doesn't, including the Ysalamiri.

I don't think that's official, just the only name they had for species whose name is unknown.
I found this book really informative, and was only dissappointed by one thing: they didn't include Ysalmari, not even as an honourable mention! How could they not even mention one of the most interesting and crucial aliens in the EU?

Perhaps it's the pic of the Bothan on the cover of Specter of the Past? I thought that was Elegos for a long time until I learned they'd revised the Bothans' appearance.

Of course, "more evolved" doesn't scientifically have any normative meaning . . .

I wonder how they're going to play that out with the fact that nearly every Hutt we've seen has taken on at least a bit of a gendered persona . . .
15. The planet Mon Calamari is actually called "Dac" by the Mon Cals and Quarrens.
Heheheh. This fact, first revealed in Geonosis and the Core Worlds, has caused no end of fan debates on Wookieepedia and elsewhere as to what is the "proper" name of the planet . . .

13. Killiks are even uglier than I thought. They look like someone stuck a moth's head on a hydralisk's body (an alien from StarCraft)

16. Nexus can be trained as guard animals, if they're trained practically since birth
17. Noghri have black eyes. (I'm going to have to change a couple sentences in my fanfic now)

19. Reeks (the rhino-thingy in the Arena in Ep. 2) are from Ylesia

The New Essential Guide to Alien Species is out now, and I'm happy with it overall.
Here's some new things I learned in it:
1. Humans count as an alien species
2. Bothans are described as "cat-like"
3. Caamasi look like lemurs (I had always pictured them looking like camels, for some reason)
4. Chiss and Zeltrons are considered separate species from humans, even though they are probably desended from them.
5. Chiss can be considered more evolved humans.
6. Chiss eye and skin colouration is dependent upon the amount of oxygen present in the air they're breathing. The more oxygen, the more blue their skin appears and the more red their eyes.
7. Clawdites (Zam Wessell's species) have to train themselves to shape-shift
8. Duros and Neimoidians are the same species
9. Baby gungans are tadpoles
10. The entry for "Hutt" comes right after the entry for "Human" in the book. I know it's alphabetical, but that's still somewhat disturbing.

All right, thank you very much.  Don't know how I'm going to make Sannah work now, I didn't know of the Changeling process. Considering my story takes place 42 ABY . . . Sannah most definitely is an adult.
Oh well, gives me an excuse to insert an OC, and I can think of a creative way to insert Sannah in there somehow. Again, thank you very much! You prevented me from sounding like a fool. Accuracy of alien species is something I want in this fanfic, and this helps me a lot. |
