with this contract complete, will we be seeing any more The Clone Wars books

Not novels for adults, no. There will still be readers for the little Muuns.

Hello Sue,

Quick question about any future The Clone Wars books:

At the end of 2008, it was revealed that LFL and Del Rey had a five-book contract of novels related to The Clone Wars, originally 3 by Karen Traviss and 2 by Karen Miller. This was later changed to be 2 by KT and 3 by KM. These books eventually became The Clone Wars novelization, Wild Space, No Prisoners, Gambit: Stealth, and Gambit: Siege. The final one was released earlier this month.

My question is: with this contract complete, will we be seeing any more The Clone Wars books? The series is starting its third season soon, and I figure more novels would be cool.

Thank you!

Sue, any chance that we'll see another book by Steve Barnes? Also, is Matt Stover going to write another b ook? I hope that the replacement novel is by Matt Stover, because I finally started reading LSatSoM.

I see someone wrote back to you about the audio cd information, but I've just got to add that Dark Empire 1 and 2, and Empire's End are originally comic book mini series published by Dark Horse Comics. The audio cd's are based on those comic books. They were good reads, and the story is definitely epic enough to warrant a novel or two. It's unfortunate that comic books don't have a chance to go nearly as in depth into a story as novels do....

He already knew that and was commenting on the presentation of it, which is what brought about discussion on the audio dramas of them.

Nope, nor a release date, exact specs to run the game, etc. The only thing apparently known is that it is subscription-based like, say, World of Warcraft or Star Wars Galaxies.

For what it's worth, if you want a really powerful presentation of Dark Empire (and I guess Dark Empire II and Empire's End, but they weren't done nearly as well), you definitely need to check out the Dark Empire audio drama, particularly the CD collection if you can (which is the only way Empire's End was released).

Really?? Who made that?

It must be something official if it is on CD's.

Hi Sue! I have a quick question that you probably can't answer yet, but I figured I'd give it a shot.

Apparently, a sales database has placed a new entry for STAR WARS: DARTH PLAGUEIS
9780345511287 (034551128X). LUCENO, JAMES. Hardback LucasBooks. 28-Feb-2012. 27.00
USD Not Yet Published. (This is coming from NJOE)

Can you comment on this at all? Perhaps this is the new paperback you mentioned earlier? Again, I understand if you need to pass over this, be it correct information or not. :)

I seen that on NJOE this morning as well. It's interesting because Feb 2012 was the release date for ImpCom 2 before it was cancelled but I'm not sure what to make of this information. Part of me is thinking that it is wishful thinking on the part of the the sales database. Someone was just to excited to wait for Sue to actually announce the replacement so they jumped the gun in what they hope the book will be.

Or even the public "voice" of the Jedi Order.

Anyway, Cody, to your point (now edited away), you said that The Old Republic is something you find undesirable because it isn't a one-time purchase but a subscription service.

Have they actually said how much the subscription is going to be? If so, how much?

Yeah the only people I can think of that they've given the title of Grand Master to have been Luke, Yoda, Satele, and I would assume Nomi Sunrider since she was the leader of the order just before KOTOR since that's when they said that Nomi Sunrider book was going to take place.

And actually I do believe that Mace Windu was the leader of the Jedi Council during the prequels and Yoda was the leader of the order. Of course I think that yoda would trust Mace's judgement enough to decide the best action for the council unless of course yoda didn't agree i'm sure he could put in his opinion and help give more perspective on a lot of matters.

That's what Yoda and Luke both have been, as has Satele and a few others, as far as we know. Basically, it's just the top Jedi on the Jedi Council.

I might be willing to try the Clone Wars one out. I would love to try the Old Republic and I may pick up a free trial if they happen to release one but along with the cost I just can't justify it because I'm still a student, and I'm getting married next year. I don't have the time to play games anymore. I do subscribe to Xbox Live normally, but I haven't renewed this year.

That, again, leads credence to the novel being in 3,647 BBY, 3,646 BBY, 3,645 BBY, 3,644 BBY or so.

By the way, this was also blown out of the water because the novel's epilogue refers to the cold war as having gone on for "more than a decade now." That puts it in at least 3,643 BBY.

Personally, I'm with ugaaccountant, who said:

As much as I can agree that secrecy on dates is important if it's part of the surprise of the game, it seems rather bizarre to release a novel without a set time frame (at least a set public time frame) long before the release of the game.

I would almost say that it seems as though the date could still be in flux, given that the novel puts it 10+ years after the Treaty of Coruscant, yet the developer said the game starts less than 10 years ATC and Williams has said it is immediately before the game. Those kind of contradictory statements make me wonder if the "six to thirty years ATC" time frame is so broad because it isn't pinned down yet . . . but wouldn't that make writing the novel even more difficult for Williams, and wouldn't it preclude references like "more than a decade now," since they could end up incorrect when a date actually is pinned down?

It makes one wonder.

For what it's worth, my next edition of The Star Wars Timeline Gold will probably put it around 3,652 BBY or so, if only to have some kind of approximate date to use, since there are other dates that link to the story (such as the birth dates of Shigar and Ax, the colonization of Sebaddon, etc.).

: shrug :

Perhaps he found it rude to essentially tell someone what amounts to "hey, if you can't afford it, you should be studying right now, rather than posting." If it was edited because he found it rude, I concur. I was just about to post a chastisement.

But I guess I just did. ;)

Anyway, Cody, to your point (now edited away), you said that The Old Republic is something you find undesirable because it isn't a one-time purchase but a subscription service.

I'm actually with you on that one. As much as I am looking forward to TOR, I will not likely be playing it, as my career, freelance writing, and other projects don't really leave me the time to become a South Park World of Warcraft parody in real life. However, I think for me it is a matter of value versus cost, as I don't expect to spend much, if any, time playing an MMO to its fullest (the same reason I never bothered with +Galaxies+), but I do use the free PSN service and am a paid subscriber for Playstation Plus (and will likely be a paid Xbox Live subscriber when I purchase an Xbox 360 once Kinect and its Star Wars game are released).

I would be curious as to whether, given that cost is the barrier for you, whether you would be playing the Clone Wars Adventures MMO at all, given that it is more of a minigame hub that is free to play with microtransactions for enhancements to play. I find I'm personally more likely to do that than The Old Republic. What say you?
