Sue, do you know if there are any plans to release Dooku's Secret Army and Crisis on Coruscant in the U.S.? Similarly, there was an earlier announcement that The Way of the Warrior was going to be released in the U.S., but that hasn't happened so far. Are there still plans for a U.S. release?

Sorry, I don't know. I don't work with this publisher.

I remember reading bits and pieces about how Lucas set out some guidelines for the Jedi when he did the Prequels.

I hadn't heard this before, so can't comment.

Sue-
Is there any chance of getting that short story to tie up Republic/Imperial Commando at all?
Thanks.

Probably not --

Hello Sue, and others! Just want to drop by and tell you guys Red Harvest was very good. In my opinion even better then Deathtroopers! Very well done! Perfect example of how a book with a lower page-number can still be a heck of a read!

Sue,
I remember a while back seeing two e-book LOTF bundles on amazon, oddly enough they were labeled as sw:lotf volumes one and two making them next to impossible to find on the site. I recently got a kindle and was hoping to pick these up (the prices were great) and they seem to have been removed. The bundles are still on other e-book stores (such as kobo) but that is of course not helpful. I was wondering if you knew why they were removed, were they just limited deals or was something wrong with them.

Sue, a question regarding UK publishing:

Amazon UK has now listed two hardbacks with titles "Star Wars 7 book series no 1" and "Star Wars 7 book series no 2" due from Century Books on 7th July and 6th October 2011 respectively. They have also listed in both cases author is "to be confirmed".

Now, I'm aware that Amazon's reliability can sometimes be questioned, but they have also listed Alex Irvine's Nomi Sunrider novel as "Star Wars Stand Alone 7 series no 2" - so this led me to believe that when they first listed "Star Wars 7 book series no 1" some months back it was a typo - someone had mixed up "7 book series" and "stand alone 7 series" (ie 7th series in Century's publishing line). But now that Amazon UK has listed "Star Wars 7 book series no 2", I now believe that it wasn't a typo and Century are up to something.

Given that you and others have already given us the proposed SW publishing line upto next year and you (and others) have affirmed no more multi-book series, I listed those US hardback titles that haven't yet been assigned a UK release and came up with: Red Harvest, Choices of One, FotJ: Apocalypse and Heir to the Empire 20th Anniversary Edition. If Amazon's release dates are accurate, then the only title "book no 1" could be is Heir to the Empire 20th Anniversary Edition (released in US on 21st June and two weeks later in UK on 7th July). Thus if this is indeed a 7 book series, is "book no 2" a reprint of Dark Force Rising; will book no 3 (assuming 7 book series) be a reprint of The Last Command; and what other four titles are Century planning to reprint every quarter until January 2013? Oh, and will they be available in US?

Sue,

I remember reading bits and pieces about how Lucas set out some guidelines for the Jedi when he did the Prequels. It would say, for example, a Jedi could take on X amount of Battledroids, X amount of Super Battledroids, etc. Could that info be published in some kind of format? Maybe a Jedi facts thing in SW Insider or something. I was wondering because my nephew was asking how high a Jedi could jump. He wanted to know if Luke could have jumped from the ground up to the AT-AT. I said they could at least jump as high as Obi Wan when fighting Maul when he jumped onto the higher platform. So I'm assuming George Lucas put similar info in those guidelines.

Zee Zee, that's just the beginning of the all the free stuff we should be grateful for. There are also all the free games on the official site and starwars.lego.com, the TOR timeline entries, the online Lego comics, the stories in Lego Club Magazine (subscriptions are free), the script for "A Prelude to Point Rain," the Death Troopers letters, the Death Troopers tweets, the stories/in-universe documents at the official Galaxies site, the audio Holonet News entries, the Escape from Kamino facebook game, and the Clone Wars Adventures game. This is a great time to be a poor Star Wars fan. :D

Edit: Oops, forgot to include the cinematic trailers for TOR and TFUII.

Just to change the subject, I'd like to say a big thank you to all those concerned at LFL, LucasArts, Lucas Animation and DHC for the free stuff I've been given over the last couple of years from various LFL websites and affiliates:

Lost Tribe of the Sith e-books - I'm sure JJM didn't write those for free even though we can download them for free;
The Clone Wars web-comics - again I'm quite sure the writers and artists involved were paid for their talents;
The Old Republic web-comics - whether DHC produced those FOC and took royalties from the comic book reprints is immaterial given they are still freely available online;
Invasion: Refugees Prelude - again reprinted in comic book form by DHC (with added pages), but still free online;
Legacy of the Force: Betrayal e-book and audiobook (e-book still available to download);
Empire Strikes Back web-comic reprints.

Also, since I'm a non-US resident, are episodes of The Clone Wars animated series free to view online after original US airing for everyone in the US or is it just for US Hyperspace members?

Yeah, we were whining in the U.S. for a while about being unable to have the TCW novels in a format (small PB or large HB) that would match all of our other SW novels. Can't please anyone! ;)

The Clone Wars books were published in hardback then small paperback in the UK, so we actually got more choice on those ones.

Just to wade in on the whole paperback/hardcover debate a moment.....spare a thought for us fans in the UK.

We get the books released roughly a month after the US/Canada. Why?? I dont know. But of the recent releases I think a higher majority of them have been hardcover. Excepting Crosscurrent and Death Troopers and 501st its been all hardcovers. Including the Clone Wars series. They were all released in hardcover over here.

Wasnt that series only released in paperback in the US/Canada??

I'll continue to buy paperbacks. Cheaper and contains the same content. It'll be a long time before Star Wars goes broke. Wouldn't count on that happening, though.

Happy new year's everyone. I must say that I prefer to pay the full $27 hardcover price to ensure that we continue to have high quality Star Wars novels on a regular basis. If we don't put this money into the system, the well will dry up. Nobody is doing this for charity.Ah, but doesn't that assume that . . .

  1. a hardcover novel does, in fact, have a higher profit margin than a paperback novel when accounting for overall sales numbers, profit per unit sold, marginal revenue, etc.?
  2. a higher price tag, hardcover format, or even higher profit margin (whichever might truly apply) actually results in a higher quality product?
  3. hardcover prices are necessary to sustain the publishing line?
One could easily argue that, as so many people have been complaining over the last two years, the quality level of FOTJ has not matched numerous previous outings, which seems to undermine the idea that hardcover prices or the hardcover format somehow enhances quality as opposed to the quality level generated by paperbacks, many of which have been far more well-received than FOTJ's hardcovers.

One could also argue that if hardcovers and their prices bring about higher quality work, are necessary to sustain the line, or have a significantly higher profit margin (all else being equal), that the logical outcome would be a line that is entirely hardcover, as any business would be foolish to choose a lower profit option over a higher profit one, as it would undermine their business model and the best interests of their employees and shareholders.

One could also point to other publishing lines that were sustained for the life of their franchises in paperback-only format: Babylon 5 and Quantum Leap both immediately spring to mind as media tie-in novel series that lasted quite a while, alongside their parent ranchises, and yet never once released a hardback novel.

I'm not trying to attack your point, just making conversation. On economic concepts, I tend to always jump into the devil's advocate role, since it's what I teach. ;)

Personally, I do enjoy seeing hardback novels for my collection now that I'm in a position to afford them as an adult (rather than a cash-starved teen as I was during the early days of the line), and I enjoy high-quality SW tales. I'm just not sure that those two are inextricably linked. :)

Wow, that shows how long I've been out of the loop. Sorry for not taking care of it, but I really didn't want to read any spoilers... I'm only 50 pages into Vortex!
