I'd like to see some of the prequel era starfighters turn up in the later eras.

Imagine, if you will:

A Naboo N-1 vs a TIE-Fighter
or
a squadron of ARC-170s taking on an Imperial Star Destroyer

Sure, they'd be old, but so are Z-95s and CloakShapes.

Also, the RPG supplement 'Starships of the Galaxy' featured a ship called the Deathraven. It consisted of the engine/wing sections of two B-Wings attatched to a single cockpit. I'd like to see that turn up in other EU stuff.

PS - There's an A-9 Vigilance in the background of 'X-Wing Rogue Squadron: In The Empire's Service' too.

YAY! someone mentiond the A-9 Vigilance! Friggin fast as an A-wing, armed better too (swivel cannon on bottom plus the 2 cannons and missiles) and it looks freaking awesome. Mentioned only once or twice in EU, once Dark Empire and again in Rebel stand. Awesome ships.

Okay, I think the award for most under-used starfighter of the entire EU has to go to drumroll:

The Cygnus XG-1 Starwing Assault Gunboat. They were all over the place in the X-wing games, and it's a nice design that makes a lot of sense, but all I've ever seen in the books is a throwaway reference in Wedge's Gamble (or maybe it was Rogue Squadron, it's been a while since I read them) to Tycho's shuttle being modified to simulate one in training. One of the biggest omissions in the series from a starfighter standpoint...

Ah, I'll concede. I just hate K-Wings because I hate the Black Fleet Crisis!

I dug out Rebel Assault II this morning, and rediscovered the beaut that was the Phantom TIE.

Legendary!

Whoa, I found a whole thread for fighter-tech freaks like myself! Yay!:D I have friends!

They should really make a new one of those games...updated with Yuuzhan Vong and Episode III content....

Amen, General, amen! Glad I'm not the only one who longs to have a skip-blasting video game. Seriously. It would just make my day to hear the words "Skips on my tail, Red Five!" on a P.C. game.

Okay, about snubfighters:

1. K-Wings are awesome. Eighteen missile holders, plus a dual-laser and a quad-laser? Wow.

2. E-Wings are basically heavy X-Wings, but still very striking in appearance. They're probably one of the coolest designs we've seen in the comics.

3. A-9 Vigilance Interceptors were cool for their hit-and-run, rapid-flying capabilities.

4. Howlrunners are also cool. Super-intense, super-fast....what more can one ask for?

Signing off for now!

My thought for the Day -

I hate K-Wings.

And I hate the Black Fleet Crisis.

A horrible attempt to get half-baked ideas into Star Wars lore.

There. I'm done.

Until tomorrow...............

I think that TIE Fighter was first released in '95, then again in '98.

So, it doesn't run on new operating systems.

And how I loved that game......sniff

Oh, I love the Imperial Gunboat!

Dual laser cannons, dual ion cannons, and a heck-load of Proton Torps!

A lethal ship in its day.

I love the mission from TIE Fighter where you are dispatched in a Gunboat to take out a Nebulon-B Frigate on your own.

Now that takes some flying!

You're thinking of Skipray Blastboats. Alpha-class Gunboats, like we see in the X-Wing and TIE Fighter games, are a different beast entirely.

Though both are good ships.

Gun boats are usually registered as CAPITAL SHIPS because of their fire power and there are several mentions of them in the Thrawn trilogy and the vision of the future]:)

I thought the gunboat was rather fun in the Tie fighter games. I couldn't do well against the blasted A-wings, though.

**If i remember rightly that the gunboat compliment used on the imperial star destroyers is 6. Stackpole bases an X-wing simulator test ON the redemption mission in the X-wing games so if stackpole likes playing the xwing tie fighter games (he tips his hat to the creators of the game in his 1st book rogue squadron) how come he dosent use the gunboat more rather than give it 1 mention in a passing conversation.???? **

I believe it is because it is not much of a dogfighter as more of a support craft it wouldn't be as entertaining to describ e shooting them down

**k wing**
as I understand it the fact that many of the k wing suffered from running out of amo during the bfc new rep admirals were reluctant to employ them anywhere beyond the 5th fleet so my question would be instead of where are the k wings where is the fifth fleet

From what I've read, and I'm still not sure, the W-wing is a Mon-cal design, although it shares a few features like general shape with the Preybird fighter. The NR's first attempt at a stealth fighter.(Preybird Description)

As far as I cant tell, it might be RPG. I still can't be sure, because I've seen all sorts of different information on it. Here's a description of the W-wing similiar to the one I remember:

http://hangarbay.tripod.com/td -wwing.html

Although, that image is a little weird. The one I've seen 2 or 3 times is this one:

http://members.tripo d.com/~ROJ25/starfighters/w.gif

Heres a page that uses that pic as well:

http://www.eyeo nstarwars.com/trilogy/vehicle/w_wing.html

Hope this helps. I'm really not sure. One of the above sites said something about not even reaching prototype stage, which may explain its rarity, but I'm not sure if its just the brainchild of some graphics artist.
