A few people have asked about this so I'm going to make a basic list from memory.

FEEDBACK NAVIGATION

There are some threads in Feedback that answer the most commonly asked questions. There are also threads that tell you how to make complaints in a correct and efficent way, which allows us to deal with any problems you may have as soon as possible. Remember though, that we are only human, and we are not here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There is normally at least 1 mod on.

Please read these threads before you post your query. It cuts down on the Feedback clutter which gives us more time to ensure the forums are kept fun for all.

HOW TO COMPLAIN IN FEEDBACK

From time to time, you may have a reason to complain in Feedback. If necessary, the complaint will be approved for public discussion.

If you are filing a complaint, make sure you have a clear reason, who you are complaining about, and most importantly proof, regarding the complaint such as a link to a thread. Please discuss it in a calm and civilised manner and your complaint will be dealt with as best we can.

If you complain, like this actual feedback post,

your idiots. whyd id you loke my tread? it was a cool tread and ther was nothin rong wit it you morons,

you will be ignored and/or laughed at. Plain and simple. Treat us with a little respect and we'll do our best to help you with any problems you may have.

NEWBIES

A lot of people get upset over this term for some reason. It's just an affectionate term for a new poster. People normally base this on your post count. It's not insulting so don't act like it is. The common mistake newbies make is not reading the forums before they post. They just jump right in, posting redundant threads which does annoy the regulars. If you are new here, read the various thread directories and FAQ's in the various forums. Post count is irrelevant.

CAPS LOCK

Generally, in the weird world of the Internet, CAPS LOCK represests shouting. If you shout in real life, it's generally considered an angry gesture. So all caps in a conversation/discussion is considered rude and will annoy people. It's also harder to read.

FLAMING

Flaming, as described in the Terms and Conditions, is

transmit content Lucasfilm considers to be disruptive, unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;

Not allowed and will be punished accordingly. This applies to any flaming, be it a troll or more recently, Michael Jackson.

ROMANCE

The Star Wars Message Boards are not a dating service! As in any environment, you will like some people more than others. And you may even really like someone. Fine, but take it off the boards as soon as possible!

While some aspects of a relationship can be discussed, mushiness to the extent that others start moaning is best suited for other means of communication, such as instant messaging.

ROLEPLAYING

The RPG/CCG forum was originally intended for discussion of officially licensed RPGs and CCGs.

Recently, roleplaying was allowed in there. Due to a number of reasons, it was stopped.

BANNED THREADS

There are some threads that aren't allowed because members abused them.

SuperShadow
  • Threads dedicated to this big fraud are out of the question. In fact, any reference to him and/or his site will result in severe modsmacking.

Line By Line threads
  • Threads where posters say one line in the film and another does the next line and so on and so forth.

Threads dedicated to actors
  • A recent addition. Due to trolling and invasion of privacy, threads dedicated to the stars of the films are banned. Some of the posts were borderline stalking and not suitable for a family atmosphere. You may still discuss their films in the Cantina.

Post Parties
  • "I have 1000 posts!!"

That's really nice for you but most of us don't care about post count. It's pointless. Post Parties are stupid, being brutally honest, so we lock them.

Appreciation Threads
  • Threads dedicated to appreciating a poster or a group of posters are not allowed. Threads such as "Mickey Mouse Appreciation Thread" are fine.

Game Threads
  • There are many existing game threads to choose from, but game threads have become so numerous in the past that they were pushing discussion threads off the front page. Game threads are now limited, so please ask permission before posting a new one.

CHAT THREADS

There are a number of threads that are used for chatting. They mainly reside in The Cantina. Do not start any more chat threads. They will be locked. And don't ask to start a new one. When the time comes to start a new one, you will hear from us. The main chat threads are:

  • DownTime
  • Anyone Out There
  • Stroup's Work Break Place

Once they get to 10,000 posts they are locked so posting links is pointless, due to the speed they grow. Search in the first 10 pages and you're sure to find them.

ANCIENT THREADS

Don't bump ancient threads that have little or no discussion value now (for the heck of it). Seriously. If you want to discuss something, just check the thread directory and the first couple of pages of a forum. If you can't find what you're looking for, go ahead and post a new topic.

Of course, the fact that a thread hasn't been used for a while, doesn't mean it can't be revitalized. But add something substantial to the discussion and make sure the topic has discussion value!

BANNINGS

Your SW.com account works at other Lucas Online sites as well. Currently, your log-in info will allow you to sign on to the following websites: www.starwars.com, www.indianajones.com, and www.lucasarts.com. You can subscribe to the Indiana Jones e-mail newletter, you can post on the LucasArts forums, you can vote on the SW poll. With one account! In fact, we're not even allowing you to have multiple Lucas Online accounts.

What does this have to do with bannings? Well, if one account works on three sites, then a ban on one site will work on three sites as well. In other words, if you're banned here, you're banned on every Lucas Online site. If you were banned for breaking the rules on the LucasArts forums, then you can no longer post here. Etc...

Back to regular scheduled programming... Bannings are generally issued due to posters breaking the Terms of Use. Please take a few minutes to read over them, if you haven't done so before.

>

All back?! Let's continue. If you are banned, the mod will tell you why and if applicable, how long the ban is. Normal bans range from 24 hours to 2 weeks. If you re-register, your new name will be banned immediately, and your temporary ban will become permanent. Permanent bans are mostly handed out to repeat offenders and trolls.

MODERATION

The boards are moderated by the mods. We can:

  • hide threads
  • move threads
  • lock threads
  • delete threads
  • hide posts
  • delete posts
  • ban users
  • view all your posts (so you can't hide)
  • edit all posts (when it's necessary, we'll edit rather than delete such as if a swear word is mixed in with a decent enough post)
  • exceed the character limit
  • see all unapproved topics in Feedback
  • approve un-approved replies in Feedback

We have no influence with the technical aspects of the boards or indeed the main StarWars.com site.

A full list of current mods can be found here.

FORUM JEDI APPLICATION

We are swamped with applications daily. We are currently not looking for any mods and won't be for quite a while. It's a "Don't call us, we'll call you" kind of deal. If you are a responsible poster, post well and respect fellow members, you will be considered. Just enjoy yourself.

Apply here: Call for Forum Jedi.

CONTACTING ACTORS IN STAR WARS

We have no contact with any of the actors in any of the Star Wars films. We're just posters like yourself, who were chosen to moderate the board. We cannot pass message to George Lucas, send your pledge of undying love to Natalie Portman or berate Ahmed Best for giving Jar Jar life. Have a look for Fan Mail addresses. We don't have them.
