Also other sources; "The explosion of the second Death Star filled the Forest Moon's orbit with thousands of tons of debris, ranging from pebble-sized bits to 100-meter sections of the space station. While a few chunks fell onto the forest Moon, the satelite was spared any signifigant environmental damage; even today Death Star wreckage litters local space."
-Craig R. Carey, Jason Fry & Daniel Wallace, Gamer #9.

Oh, and newsflash the Ewoks are far from extinct. They are live and well in Star Tours(George Lucas Executive Producer), alive and well in many stories set after ROTJ. As well.

Extinct would mean no more Ewoks around at all. Yet they are still alive. Which is just more to the false claims made by the empire in their propaganda filled museum.

However, I didn't ask the fans, I asked the VIPs, so please follow this thread's policy and let the VIPs answer. ...or if the editors and pablo have already answered things on the topic in the thread put up their quotes.

I would have posted more of saxton's post but there is a limit to this forums post size.

The same reason I didn't post up all of Pablo's quotes either.

"Besides, Wedge's Gamble states that the Ewoks are an extinct species."

In the same book its called a imperial propaganda museum that made many false claims about the rebels, and distorting the nature of the Death Star to the imperial public. Thus the refrence to "imperial propaganda" that Pablo was discussing in insider. But no everyone has to try to hide that fact from the book, and try to pass it off as the truth...

For that matter, I like many things on saxton's site, its pretty convenient if one needs to get pictures as well. I like his indepth study of rank systems. I simply can't go with an endor holocaust as Lucas has said that didn't happen (not even partly), as do the full-time LFL editors.

  • Val, I don't know why you are worked up about this.*

I do. Unfortunately, there's a concerted effort by a few squeaky wheels to discredit Mr Saxton any time his name comes up. When fans of Saxton's work come in to defend him and oil those wheels, the discussion is then considered off topic. Pablo offered speculation as to why the Ewoks survived. Lucas said the Ewoks survived. News Flash: they survived. Maybe not every Ewok, every Yuzzum, etc. There's no need to cut and paste ad nauseum these quotes over two boards, Valiento. I'm sorry to deflate this conspiracy theory, but Mr. Luceno and Dr Saxton are NOT allowed to write anything they darn well please. It needs to be approved, by LucasBooks, and ultimately, Lucasfilm.

Valiento, you failed to post that Dr. Saxton stated that a small portion of the planet, including the Ewok village and shield generator environs from ROTJ, were saved from immenent destruction. You forget that the Rebels in space did not know of the Ewoks, and therefore would not have tried to save the planet, excluding the area where their commando team was stationed. It just so happens that the Ewok village was saved.

Besides, Wedge's Gamble states that the Ewoks are an extinct species.

Val, I don't know why you are worked up about this.

Ewoks are seen in lots of post-ROTJ EU, ergo they survived, no matter how ridiculous the concept may seem to people.

*I hope this helps put the controversy to rest,

Curtis Saxton*

The question to Pablo and Tasty Taste is ?what gives? What is going on?? Is Saxton making claims not supported by Lucas POV, and LFL?s established facts about Endor being fine and well? Is saxton misinformed about what is going to printers? ...or was Saxton/Luceno allowed to write what is essentially viewed as an in-universe "imperial propaganda source"(to quote Pablo from insider)?

*Don't buy into anti-Ewok propaganda. It sounds like the Empire is behind this particular rumor.*-insider

However Saxton apparently posted a letter to people that showed him the recent starwars.com quote to say;

This particular sentence (above) is misleading. Unfortunately, no publicity system is 100% immune to accidental misrepresentations? Endor is not spared from cratering? My general advice to SW fans is to pay most attention to what you can observe, measure and interpret with your own resources and wits. Don't over-interpret publicity releases during your serious investigations of canon. PR necessarily amplifies or downplays details for the sake of a catchy and intriguing effect. Inside the Worlds" was meticulously written and proofread to avoid suggesting anything unphysical. It makes no concession to irrationalist deniers of Endor Holocaust. I have seen every brush stroke and every comma appearing in the book on the day it went to the printers. Apart from the semantic mistake about Endor being "spared", the ITW PR statement on the Official Site is accurate.

Even starwars.com had this to say in a recent article;

?Helping spare Endor from a fiery metal-pelting fate were the valiant effort of Rebel starships that erected deflector shields and towed hazardous wreckage away from the green moon?.

Which was in line with LFL?s view on the subject, given in this thread, in Insider and other places.?

Pablo discussed Lucas version of the story in issue #76 of insider recently for instance, and how Endor was not destroyed by a holocaust.

"And it's a movie with a happy ending. Though there are undoubtedbly any number of physical models that would indicate that the detonation of a moon-sized object in the uppser atmosphere of a forest planetoid would wreak untold havoc on the local ecology, that's not what happens. It was George Lucas' intent that the fuzzy little Ewoks and their Rebel friends live happily ever after, and nuclear winters don't fit into his model."

Its not the first time time VIPs have said that the Endor Holocaust is simply either imperial propaganda, or essentially fan-made fanfic, not in line with Lucas?s views of the story. I seem to recall Lucas even discrediting it, and saying the endor was just fine in one interview when he was confronted about the subject.

This is a question for Pablo Hidalgo and Leland Chee.

VIPs including Pablo have said that it was Lucas intent that there was no "endor holocaust" and everyone lives happily every after in his version of the story. This was shown in Lucas' work with star tours for instance where the Ewoks and Endor are discussed as being alive and well (lucas considered star tours an addition to his mythos, as if it was an additional movie opened in only one theatre, to keep his universe alive alive between the time it took him to make the prequels).

Ron Marz had the original dialogue but he was too slow and Peet Janes had to put in a different dialogue mostly in issue 2 to get the story to press in time, to avoid delaying the issue of tales.

Ron Marz dialogue was then put into the TPB release.

"2) How different are the two versions of dialogue?"

They are quite different, with totally different emotions. I prefer the peet janes version myself as it feels more like the dialogue from ESB, and the movies, does more to evoke more of Anakin's character.

Well, the moment they have Indiana Jones avatars, I'll start using Dr. Henry Jones Sr., ;).

Aha! Thanks. (I only have the 2 individual issues, not the TPB.)

Your post answers my question, but unfortunately raises some more questions. :)

1) The TPB has the original script's dialogue reinstated, while the two individual issues have the altered dialogue.

So the original dialogue was by Peet Janes, and was changed to Ron Marz's dialogue, and then changed back again? Weird.

Does anyone know why it was changed, and not once but twice? Any information about this on the DH boards?

2) How different are the two versions of dialogue?

Huh? The Ron Marz version in Tales has Part 1 and 2 of the same story. Where's the Peet Janes version?<<

*Garm Bel Iblis

I just hope he's in 3.*

Somewhere around here, Pablo H. has confirmed that Garm won't be in Ep3.

*+There's a good nineteen year gap to fill in between Episode III and IV.

I'm surprised this hasn't be brought up.+

It has been, by a very prominent poster here. Look back a page or two.*

In the Infinities story, Vader kills a Dark Woman. I guess he hunted her down. They say she was in other stories so it's part of the timeline, but all the other characters in the stories are in other stories too. I have leafed through Tales, and I can't see how it's supposed to be part of the continuity.

But why wouldn't it be part of the continuity? It seems to fit quite well.

*Dark Women story is unique in that it has actually two different versions of the same story...

I don't see why they would use the name if they didn't intend for it to be Captain Panaka or a relative.
Name-dropping like this happens all the time in the SW universe, often for the sole purpose of generating debates like this one. It's fun to speculate.

Valin Horn/Tahiri age
Yep, they're 2 years apart. Or maybe just 1 year 1 month - we really don't go into specific dates and months for birth dates.

Alema Rar's age
Well, Anakin Solo is only 16 and most of the other strike team members are not much older. With that said, we've never given Alema a definitive birth year.

Remember that the Shadowfeed is an underground communications network. They could be transmitting from anywhere, even an occupied planet.

Just bumping up this question to make sure the VIPs have seen it...

Pabs or another VIP,

I was browsing through the HNN in my older Insider's, I think it was #66, and came accross a CIS: Shadowfeed article originating from Muunilinst that discussed the Confederate currency. The date of the article places itaround 9 months ABOG.

So that got me to thinking, what became of Muunilinst after the battle there in the Cartoons? If the Seps were transmitting a message from there five months later there must have been another battle where the CIS retook the planet, right? And what of the banking clan guys that Obi-Wan arrested in the cartoons? Have they escaped?
