Lord Ulic- I agree, keep the post NJO. After Episode 3, thats it for me. Unless theirs a good live action tv series and aniamtion/cartoon series-something visual, star wars for me is over.
I agree. None of the new characters appeal to me in any way. There should be more stories that can be told between the three years from ANH to TESB. If it doesn't have Luke, Han and Leia in it, and not just in background roles, then its not Star Wars to me any longer.

For me, Star Wars will never be over! Having been through the dark ages (i.e. 1987 - 1991) when there was no significant SW coming out, I still thoroughly enjoy everything Del Rey, Dark Horse and the other EU licencees throw at us! Okay, I am not always happy with their product, but usually 8 out of 10 items do carry my approval! If Lucasfilm decides to end the SW movie/tv franchise with Episode III (which I doubt), I hope LucasBooks will continue to supply us with their great work for decennia to come!!!

Sigh I was looking forward to 9 Old republic era books. And I despise Solo kids, so I'm not gonna read 9 post-NJO novels full of them.

I assume the series will focus on the "new" generation, mainly Jacen and Jaina.
Whether that's a good thing or not....well, I'll leave that up to the individual to decide.

I'm hoping the original three heroes are put out to pasture. Even if it's just for a small time frame (ie. a 3 book series) where new heroes are central.

Are the post-NJO books going to focus on the original characters or do we have to put up with the Solo kids as stars?

Nick Fel, it has changed - there was some discussion about this on the previous page of the thread and a link to further discussion.
edit: sorry Sue - didn't mean to overide what you said - we posted at the same time.

Yeah, it changed. It's in the post-NJO period now, but we'll still have some books in the Old Republic era also.

Timbolton,
Thanks for your note. We hope to have a good mix of eras for the upcoming books, and the plans still include the 9-book series in the post-NJO era. I'll know more in the next month or so.

But if they want to make me a happy AND satisfied consumer, the editing & proofreading has to match that of the "Incredible Cross Sections". If there's a goof up in there, I've missed it...
Agreed completely there. Which is why I will no longer purchase any "Essential Guides" and instead hoard my pennies for the DK Star Wars books.
*So...on one end of LucasBooks you've got amazing quality, and the other end, "eh" quality.
Why the inconsistency?*
I think a lot of it has to do with relying on old info that was already rife with inconsistencies to build on. Garbage in, garbage out. Also, in my opinion, the "Essential Guides" aren't that diligent in fact checking.

No change please. Tired of reading about the Solo brats
Amen to that. And the rest of the Jedi from Sunnydale and Dawson's Creek as well.

Author Karen Travis had this to say about the relationship between the Republic Commando novel and the game:
"The relationship between book and game is a bit hard to explain without going into detail that's not in the public domain yet. But...RC:HC isn't a novelisation in the sense of a novelisation of a movie - it has its own independent plot and characters. You don't need to know anything about the game (or even play games at all) to follow the action in the book. Basically, I tried to make sure that anyone moving from game to book, or book to game, wouldn't feel they were entering a totally different universe. You'll recognise where you are. If you bear in mind that I write military/ anthropological SF and that I've never played a game in my life, you'll understand where I was coming from."
That's from here: http ://boards.theforce.net/Authors_&_Artists/b10347/15258314/p3/?63

It might tie into the game though, since the first level or so of the game will apparently be set during Geonosis.

In the walkthrough on the Republic Commando game site, the developer talking says that the game starts at Geonosis and heads up to Episode III. If Hard Contact is the 'book of the game', does it span all that time?
It's not the book of the game, it's about a commando getting seperated from his team while having to destroy a nanovirus. It has nothing to do with the game, it's not a mission from the game.
